I was checking out this gun on the bushmaster website and I like it! But I have a few questions about it first how is it as far as reliability? Also I shoot rifles left handed will I catch brass in the face with this gun because of its ejection port location? Last will this gun use accept hi cap ar 15 magazines? The mags on bushmaster's site look like ar mags from what i could see of them. thanks for any help guys.

But I have a few questions about it first how is it as far as reliability? The reliability is okay. I've seen one fail to feed several times with USGI mags. The rifle has no forward assist of any kind, which is a huge disadvantage in my book.

Honestly, I don't much care for the M17. It has a lot of flaws.

I had one for a while. Blech. As a lefty, forget it (I'm one as well). It'll eject brass into your trachea, and the ejection can't be reversed.

In Alaska, one method of separating body parts from metal when they get frozen together is to urinate on said bond. Being as how my cheek will likely be bare and I have no desire to urinate on my cheek, I will pass on any rifle with a metal cheek rest. :what:

Yep, the Bushmaster bullpup is completely out for us lefties... But if anyone else has one already, Kurts Kustom (http://www.kurtskustomfirearms.citymax.com/catalog/item/29585/1134.htm) does some REALLY cool stuff with them...

I think it looks OK, but I am unsure as to reliability/longevity. I examined one back in the early 90s, and was suprised to see that it's based on the AR-15 action. (magwell/mag release is virtually identical, as well as bolt hold open)

The 17 is essentially an AR-18 internally, but has a AR15 magwell.

As someone posted, Kurt's does some neat things with them. Since the rifle is all metal, inexpensive and reasonably reliable, it could be a really great project gun. A Kydex cheek rest and better optics rail would be easy additions. The trigger could be improved with a little effort as well.

These things got for $600 or less and are as short as a carbine with the stock collapsed. Doesn't seem that stupid to me.
