Hey guys, Im a newbie as you can tell to these forums but not a newbie to the fourm "culture". Resuntly my father passed away at the age of 61. He was a great man and his death was sudden and without reason. My mother said that i could pick from his guns before the other kids got to because i would have more use for them up here in Oregon than they would in souther california. I picked the Smith and Wesson 686 .357 revolver. It has the 4" barrel on it though. I really would like a 6" barrel but cannot find anyone that sells just the barrel. Can they even be swaped out? Do any of you guys know if or where i can get one? I plan on learning to shoot better via a sportsmans club in town and want to mabie compete someday. I know that would make my father proud.

The other guns of his will be dispersed among some of his brothers and his kids but my mom is keeping the black powder pistol for herself and we are going to make a nice display case and put a nice picture of our "peace man" at her now empty feeling home.

any information you guys have would be most helpful. Thank you

You should be able to have a gunsmith swap barrels with ease. Contact S&W or an authorized S&W gunsmith. I had a 686, 8 3/8 in barrel that I wanted shorter. Decided it was easier to sell the gun to my brother and buy a 2 1/2 in snub 686. Check out http://www.smith-wesson.com. It should help in your search.

I looked around smith and wesson.com and couldnt find much. the thing is i cant sell the gun. it was passed down through the family so getting a longer barrel is pretty much my only option. thanks though

Go to the modern revolvers manual on the site. It is 36 pages long. Read pages 28-30. It will have the contact info that I think you are looking for.
