This heavily used revolver was owned by my great grandfather. Family lore says it was used in 1898 by my GGF to "kill a man on the street at Little Rock, Ark. Mr._______ was no-billed by the Grand Jury." "In 1904 Mr.____ shot a man who tried to rob him." There is exceptional wear on the grip so I presume the weapon was handled often, if not daily. I believe it was nickel plated, but none remains. I believe the cal. is .38 but could not find any notation on the weapon.

Given that it's a 38 it is a .38 Double Action 3rd Model. Made from from 1884 to 1895 with 203,700 units produced. It is in 38 S&W. For $30.00 you can get a letter from the S&W historian documenting when the gun was shipped from the factory and where or who it was shipped to.
