I'm thinking about getting a Browning Buckmark for general plinking/rat-blasting.

The Question:
Who's got a red-dot on their .22 handgun? Do you like it? Does it make a difference in your shooting? Who makes the best (combination of low price and good quality) red dot sight? Cabela's Pine Ridge (listed for $179) is the highest I'd want to go, and that's WAY up there as far as what I'd like to spend. Anything good in the $50 range?

I ordered red dots/scopes, etc from eabco in the past, always been happy with their prices.

Every now and then they have specials on pro-points for around $40.00 I bought 4 of them last time, and 2 tasco 6-18x42 scopes for a little over $50.00 each.
I sold 2 pro-points off to friends and paid for my shipping...
They are great for .22s, but work fine for magnum revolvers, too.
They have 30mm adcos for around $70.00 also.
Inch tubes are just fine for .22 pistols.

I've recently put an Ultradot 1" 5MOA red-dot on my 22/45, and it's a blast. You'll have fun with it, and you'll be able to find out how remarkably accurate these .22s are. The Bushnell that caz has linked to above looks like a great value.

I put a 42mm BSA on a S&W 22A and I am happy with it. The cost is very reasonable and for plinking that's what counts. See it here (http://www.bsaoptics.com/productdetail.asp?ID=360&Prod_Code=RD42).

i have a 30mm bsa that i picked up at sportsmans guide for 30 bux... i've used it on my 357,44, and 22... once zeroed it holds tight... you'll need to check those mount screws on the 44 though..

Wow, a 42mm BSA on a .22 pistol....I like overkill as much as the next guy, but my magnum revolvers don't even have it that good...
Maybe it should be on my shopping list.

Thanks for the replies. After seeing that pic from the other thread, I'm convinced that a red dot is the way to go! It'll probably be at least a month or two before I get the gun, so I have some time to shop around. After seeing the range of stuff that's available in the $50 range, I must say I'm impressed.

I have a pro-point on a 5.5" bull barrel Buckmark. I shot some indoor mini pin matches with it. it is a great plinker and gopher gun

30 mm BSA is sounding pretty good to me, for $40. Now to just get the money together for the pistol, mount, and sight. And ammo. Lots and lots of ammo.

I'd take a look at the Millett red dots also. I have one of their SP1 scopes on my M1a. These rifles are well known for the ability to shake a scope to pieces. Two years plus the SP1 has held on and with no loss in zero. It's only a 3 MOA dot so good groups are still possible at range, it has 11 brightness setting, is compact and has good battery life. I give it a big thumbs up.

I've got the c-more on my Buckmark Micro. tons of fun, but a little higher price tag than what you listed (about $200). For the rail, I couldn't tell where you got the pic from, but I highly reccomend the Weigand combat model. Better fit and finish than the b-square I checked out and a ower price too.

I started shooting Bullseye with a Buckmark, I used an Ultradot on it. There is a good discussion of dot scopes here http://www.bullseyepistol.com/ - go down under "Tools of the Trade" and read the dot section. The author compares some popular dot scopes, I believe the Ultradot came out on top.

Peter, that IS the Weigand combat mount, I found it at Brownell's website (following recommendations found on the old TFL site).
