Hello all,
I've been looking for a good scope to put on my varmint rifle and a friend recommended Nikon. The Nikon Monarch 6.5-20x44 model seems to best fit my needs. Nikon claims that their optics allow for 95% light transfer and my friend says that the Nikon optics are clearer than Leupold - which is what I currently have. I also don't have any experience with the "Nikoplex" reticle they offer.
I have no experience with Nikon scopes and I'm hesitant to spend the money without some opinions from shooters on this site.
Thanks for your feedback!
Dennis

A friend of mine has that exact Nikon on his AR Varmint rig. Very nice scope. Just as clear as my Leupold (allthough I wouldn't say clearer than), nice audible and tactile clicks. Great scope.
Two minor qualms I have with it. One....the 1/8 MOA adjustments are a bit too fine for my liking. Two....the adjustable objective....the entire end of the scope rotates unlike my Leupold. This means that if you are using Butler Creek flip ups they will rotate with the objective....kind of annoying.
Other than these minor issues, it's a great scope for a good price.

I've got that exact model on my Tikka Whitetail (.30-06).
Sharp, clear and solid. I was looking for a good target scope to take advantage of the range of the .30-06 and didn't want to spend more than $500.00. The Nikon seemed to be the best choice based on specs, price and a lot of very positive reviews/feedback.
Agree with 762x51 on the objective/scope cover issue. Not a problem since my rig is a paper-puncher, not a field/hunting setup but it's a bit annoying.
As for the 1/8 MOA adjusment, it's great for target work but may be a bit fine for hunting.
For the price, it's a tough act to beat. Got mine at swfa.com. Good price, good service.

I have the Nikon 6.5-20X44 mounted on my Colt HBar Elite and highly recommend it. The optics are superb for a scope at that price point. The 1/8 MOA adjustments are fine, you just have to remember 2 clicks instead of 1.
Warranty is as good as any other manufacture's and follows the scope should you ever sell it.
Take Care
