Barrel life for Rem 700P in 308?

Anyone know the expected barrel life on a stock Rem 700P in 308? I just read a post stating 1000 rounds but that seems awfully short.

Depending upon loads and your shooting habits, expect 5,000-6,000.

1000 is more like an Ultra Mag. .308 will last an easy 6-10
