I have had a chance to shoot a Model !0SW with an Aristocrat Rib. The feel of the gun was pretty smooth. My 10 day wait for the Ruger GP100 is over today and when the gun store opens tomorrow I get to play!!!

My question is how is such a rib installed on a .357 and does this throw the balance of the gun. I think it would look neat to have a rib on a 6" .357

TIA

I had a custom PPC revolver with an all steel Aristocrat rib installed. You can purchase them through www.brownells.com

Yes, they change the ballance. They add several ounces on weight to the barrel. The only versions I've seen have been intended for after market bull barrels, but you could check and see if they make a model for a Ruger profile.

The rib requires 2 or 3 holes to be tapped in the top of the barrel for attachment.

Good Luck...

That would be alot of fun. Wonder if anyone has pictures of a fully decked out wheelgun with rib!!!

Joe, could you please provide an exact URL to a pic of an Aristocrat rib? The Brownell's search engine flat doesn't work - enter "Aristocrat" as a search term, and you get one lousy screw :fire:.

Aristrocrat is of course a brand name for a particular rib--

Bomar made them as well --(I believe first) and they made ribs for 1911s, BHPs, and S&W fixed sight K frames in four and six inch--
You could try Gil Hebard

The link will allow you to order a catalog-- Don't think they have an actual web site--

they are sorta neat to have. my experience with the rib is on a bull-barreled PPC gun.

their big advantage is that the front and rear sights are in perfect alignment and on the same sight plane. there are very precise, and repeatable, adjustments for the rear sight.

the rib on my gun also has a front sight which could be set for three different distances. it could then be switched between settings with a sliding button on the side of the rib. it might be a bit much for a stock gun. all the added weight is up high

Ah. Good. Not very adaptable to other sight setups though, unfortunately.

This seems like it would be fun for a project gun. :)

if you had machining skills, i'm sure you could make the cuts needed to drop the rib down snug with the barrel rib and top of the frame. the market demand was mostly for bull barreled wheelguns and round topped slides...the cuts were relatively simple.

on the wheelguns, the ribs are attached to the barrel, only, with three screws. it floats atop the frame.

45R - the gp-100 with it's flat-topped frame would lend itself to being fitted with a rib. the difficult cut might be the curved leading edge of the top-strap.

You just have to drill and tap a screw or too--on some not at all--

B0-Mar--- Available from Bo-mar or GilHebard--
Gil Hebard-- 309-289-2700 8-4 cst

OR---

http://www.bo-mar.com/kevi_004.htm

for the 1911 and BHP

Combat rib for K&L 6 in
Cover up rib for 4" S&W 10hb, 13,58,64hb,65,547,581 & 681

And of course the Bull Barrel ribs talked about above that require custom fitting-

These arer EASY to mount-- Use stock barrel and two or three drill and tapped holes--
