Gunshop where I go has two in stock - both flat latches. I haven't picked either up, one's a 3 inch and the other 4 inch. I'm scared they will stick to my fingers... :D

Through the case they look to be in good shape and I can get either for something less than two bills.

Anybody have a use for the .32 that I've over looked? Only possible justification I can imagine would be to get an inexpensive (by reloading) alternative to a .22 mag.

Thoughts?

Yes, fun little guns.

There's not a ton of ammo available loaded for the .32 Long, nor is there a lot of loading information, but components and the like are readily available.

I've a 4" I-frame Regulation Police and a snubby Model 30 from the early 1970s.

Both are very, very fun guns.

I'd love a K-frame .32, but they're hard to find and expensive.

In terms of utility, the .32 Long really isn't very useful anymore.

That said, though, they're fun fun fun to shoot, can show AMAZING accuracy, and will do for rabbit or squirrel control with carefully placed shots.

If you hand load, you've got a lot of options.

I agree with Mike (again). The .32 S&W Long isn't a manstopper, but it is a fun, and very accurate cartridge. To really take full advantage of it you will need to handload. If you choose to buy one I'd go for condition first, and then barrel length (longer is better). In today's market .32 revolvers (other then snubbies) aren't very popular so the ball is likely in you're court. If the guns are in good shape and can be had for $200.00 or less I'd jump.

I agree that .32 S&WL is no manstopper, but...

I was carrying one for a while and another deputy chided me about those "teeny tiny little bullets". I suggested he stand by the wall and I would put one of those "teeny tiny bullets" in his eyeball, then we could have coffee and talk things over. The offer was declined.

Jim,

I too have carried a Smith & Wesson or Colt .32 revolver on occasion, but I was secure in my marksmanship and hesitate to recommend someone I didn't know too do the same. That said, I would much rather carry a .32 S&W Long over a .32 ACP, which is acceptable in some quarters. Since the Gun Parts Corp. (Numrich Arms) have Colt Police Positive cylinders rechambered to use .32 H&R Magnum I may put something together. Maybe end up with an ultra-compact "Fitz Special."

Thanks for the replies. I'll just stew for awhile and hope someone else buys'em both... :)
