I am looking into making a rifle scope purchase pretty soon and was wondering if there is a website that tests scopes and reports how they rank against one another. I really cant afford a top of the line scope but want the best bang from my buck. I am looking at the Mueller rifle scopes and have heard good things about them. How do they rank against other scope manufacturers? This will probably be used on a 308 M1A but could be used on a 223 or 243 bolt action. Here is thier website if you havent heard of them.

I have tested 2 Mueller scopes, and they worked very well. I am still using both of them. Longterm, I can't say, as they have not been around a long time. I have also not needed to test their warranty service. However, I have heard from others who read the article, then went out and bought a Mueller. Believe me, if they had any problems with the scope, I would have heard about it.

Thanks for the comment. How is the quality of the glass? I want as much hunting time at dusk as I can get. Does it compare to a Leupold?

That is hard to answer, as both are plenty bright. I have no 2 scopes that are alike in both brands. However, to better answer your question, as it was just breaking daylight here, I took a Leupold and a Mueller outside with each set on 8.5 power. I could tell no difference in brightness, as both looked bright to my old left eye. I didn't look for very long, as it is cold out these, and I was naked, so it was a hurried project. If you will be hunting right up until dark, I do recommend the lighted reticle, as that is what will limit your ability to hunt late more than anything else.

OK I think I have found what I want but after reading other forums I have a new competitor. Here is the Mueller that I have settled on.

But now I have found this scope which looks pretty good.

The mueller scope has an illuminated red dot but the swift has a little more power for when I play at the target range. The Mueller is about $200 and the Swift is about $230
