I'm interested in mounting a small reflex sight to my S&W 625, for plinking, target , pin , whatever. I just think it'd be fun to use.

So, who makes a good, durable, compact reflex or red-dot sight, and what's a good mount for an N-Frame?

Secondly, I've got a crazy idea. The hooplah these days is mounting a light on your pistol. Revolvers aren't really conductive to this, as nothing is available for them. (Though, I don't think it'd be too hard to make one with a rail on the underlug; you'd have to use the cord instead of the buttons on the light, though.)

So, how about this, for the guy who wants a wheelgun but absolutley has to have a light mount: You find a rugged, bright flashlight with a 1" diameter body, right? Then, you use a see-through scope ring, that leaves the iron sights in place, and mount the light in a 1" ring to the top of the weapon. Any barrel 4" and over would probably cast a shadow, but you'd have your illuminator should you need it.

Plus, heh, unlike mounting lights on, say, Colt clones and Sigs, you'd be able to find holsters easily. Any revolver holster that'd fit a scoped gun would work.

Just a thought. :D

NC - I think tho haven't checked - you'd be able to find a B-Square mount that would do - they are aluminum and usually fit in rear sight position with a forward clamp to secure to barrel. There are others but these are not too pricey and quite easy to fit.

The light idea would I am sure work - if the rings were ''see-thru's'' - not that I would go that route on a revo - in fact never really considered it!:)

If you want a reflex style the DocterOptic is a great choice. They made revolver mounts.

Nice! What'd you do to mount the light? Looks like you just bolted one of those short picatinny rails to the underlug. That would be the simplest way to go, wouldn't it?

I mounted a weaver rail to the bottom and stuck an M3 on. Pretty simple really. Frankly I think it looks goofy as hell but it is just the ticket for running jackrabbits at night. I think it would be quite a good camp gun for bitey scratchy things that may decide to pay you a visit at night too.

You can aquire the target in the white light very quickly, then put the red dot on it and squeeze.

I like the weigland bases if you need a weaver style base, I have them on about 6 or 7 S&Ws from a 617 to a 629. Available in aluminum or stainless, silver or black, excelent fit and finish. I have had poor results with red dot sights on calibers larger than .357, recoil seems to take its toll rather quickly on the model I have used.
