ok so a wild thought hit me the other night (i get insomnia around the holidays it causes really strange ideas to form), adn i wondered if maybe someone else had teh same idea....
anyone heard of, thought of, whatever of.. using an AR in 6.8 SPC, 6.5 Grendel, or similar cartridge (ie above 6mm and feeds/available in an AR15) for use in High Power Silhouette??
would this even be viable?
thought i'd ask, b/c it is gonna drive me a litle nuts till i bounce this one around a bit.
thank you fpor your indulgence

Why don't you try it and report back?
The last time I thought about shooting silhouettes I was going to use either an M1A or a Ruger VT. Both are .308s.

Not off the wall, but a really good question. I think the 6.5 would be great.

if this next year shapes up right i just might.:D depends on a number of things (cost, availability of ammo/components and other supplies, etc) and i'm going to build a Service Rifle legal A2 first.
if the change to .308 could be done on an ar15 lower instead of requiring an ar-10....
but oh well i'll have to look into things next year, might do it just for the 'weird factor" of it.

Locktime locktime locktime. A Gieselle trigger helps, but I dont know how much.
I would use an SR-25/AR-10 in 260. Then again I am using a Kidd triggered 10/22 for rimfire.

Detritus,
Disclaimer; I'm assuming High Power Silhouette is shooting same targets/distances as Metallic Silhouette. ie Rams at 500M, Turkey's at 385M etc?
I'm told that the 7BR is right on the edge of being able to knock down rams reliably...probably on the "not" side of the edge.
The Grendl is based on the PPC and has even less powder capacity than the BR. My extrapolation is that the Grendl will be lacking at 500M.
