Sorry that this is OT. Not about guns or politics, but I think y'all should hear about the good job that the support crew are doing for the troops.
A few years ago, most of the departments of the Army and Navy hospitals combined into a single, shared department known as the National Capital Medical Consortium. Most physicians, such as myself, spend their time evenly between Bethesda Naval and Walter Reed Army Hospital. I can't get into details for various reasons, but as you well may be aware, both hospitals have been receiving casualtied from both AO's. I just want you guys to know that the men and women of our team are working very hard to take care of our troops and they are indeed getting the best care we can provide. Today was a good day. Nobody died, and the troops in my ICU continue to improve. I'm not an overly religious man, but I've found myself praying at bedside with the pt's families on more than one occasion.
Weapons of war to terrible things to a body and seeing these young men, in the prime of their lives, torn apart has given me not a few sleepless nights.
I post to let you guys know what is going on over here and vent a little bit. It's been a sad, frustraing time over here. Frustratin because sometimes there is not anything you can do to help. Frustrating because I'm not OVER THERE WHERE I BELONG like during the first gulf war and I'm frustrated as hell that I'm not at the scene to help right away, rather than waiting days and days for the medivacs to come in CONUS.
I've got another 36 hour call (duty for you non-medical folks) starting tomorrow so I'm gonna knock off "early" tonight.
Pray for the nurses, medics, and docs that they have the strength to care for our guys as best as they can. Zack out.

I've known quite a few docs, nurses, medics, and whatever other medical title they may have in my military career. The overwhelming majority have been great folks who are dedicated to their job of taking care of our troops. My hat is off to you and them for the job they have done and are doing.

If we ever meet the first beer is on me.

Appreciate your comment. I don't even consider myself in the same league with some of those guys, just trying to do my part. I'll keep you posted, but I have a feeling I'm in the process of being banned from the site. Go to the tech support forums for the ongoing drama. Z.

Relieve the watch. Relieve the wheel and lookouts. On deck, officer section one, enlisted section three. Relieve the watch.

Now get some zs, brother. Next watch will come soon enough. We know you're doing a great job....and hats off to you.

Howdy gents! Been on since 0500 and just now got a chance to sit at my desk with a BIG cup of mud. Very busy. I'm amazed at some of the wounds I've seen. It is a testament to the physical shape of these young men as well as the skill of the medics and docs in the field that some of these guys are even alive.
I've one guy that was given an emergency cricothyroidotomy in the field by a spec ops medic (Those guys are better trained than some general surgeons I know!) and had to be transfused 19 units of blood before stabilization. He is sitting up and bed, smiling at his wife even as I type.
Message for today: DONATE BLOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! W/out selfless blood donors he would not be with us today. See you at next breather. Only 24 hours left in my workday!
God bless the 101st.

As a retired street paramedic, I have the utmost respect for the military trauma teams.
Keep up the good work folks.

The single most remarkable human being I've ever known was a Marine nurse working in a burn unit.

Angels do walk among men.
