FREMONT, California - A pack of angry Chihuahuas attacked a police officer who was escorting a teenager home following a traffic stop, authorities said. The officer suffered minor injuries including bites to his ankle on Thursday when the five Chihuahuas escaped the 17-year-old boy's home and rushed the officer in the doorway, said Fremont detective Bill Veteran.

The teenager had been detained after the traffic incident, Veteran said.

The officer was treated at a local hospital and returned to work less than two hours later, Veteran said.

It was the third time this month a Fremont officer was bitten by a dog while on duty. Neither of the other officers were seriously injured.

And it was the second bizarre incident in as many hours for the Fremont Police Department.

Two hours earlier, a homeowner in Niles reported that an intruder broke into her home and added pornography to her computer.

The woman said she woke up and was startled to see a stranger typing away on her computer. The intruder fled, but left behind an altered screen saver that featured images of "erotic Indian art," Veteran said.

Nothing was reported stolen, and neither the woman nor her nine-year- old daughter was hurt, he said.

Fremont is about 35 miles (56 kilometers) southwest of San Fransisco

I guess being close to San Francisco explains it...

Loved to have seen those Taco Bell dogs going after the cop...anybody know how many were involved (dogs, not cops)?

A pack of angry Chihuahuas attacked a police officerThere is just something about that sentance....

Yo Quero Copo Bell??

Somehow the word "pack" doesn't fit either. Pack deals with wolves, wild dogs, hyenas, and such. Maybe it should be something like a "Chalupa of Chihuahuas..."

The author of "What do Dogs Know?" reports a film of a dozen schusshund trained Chihauhas that had been taught to fight as a group.

When you think about it it's pretty scary. They may be 15 pounds each, but that adds up to a lot of teeth and a pretty big total weight. Sure, you could stomp three or four of them, but the other eight or nine could hamstring you.

Then when they kill you you'll have to tell St. Peter "I got mobbed by a pack of Taco Bell dogs". And he'll say "You go to Hell."

I got attacked by 4 crazed minature poodles one time. I gave the first one that tried to bite my ankle a pretty good boot (he did a back flip and gave out a pretty good yelp). The rest were smart enough to back off while I extricated myself.

Didn't the French make a revolver for bicyclists to use against
dogs actually brandnamed Velodog?
Looks like we need an upgraded model: VeloChihuahua,
with the prequisite suite of tactical add-ons.

My parents used to keep a small pack of 20-25 pound bostons. I'd watch them engage in pack type behaviors. Group takedown stuff.

A pack of smaller dogs are generally going to be more effective than an equal weight single larger dog.

Of course the massive side ache from laughing so hard he could barely stand was probably worse than the bites to his ankle.

I think maybe you could Tazer them. Watch the little buggers do the electron dance. Or maybe just wear an old pair of Bell Bottoms. Everybody gets thier own 2" inches.

I am thinking a .22 with some rat shot would do nicely. Those little dogs are fierce. This should send them packing though, probably the sound of the first shot would scatter them. Maybe a .22 starter pistol would be good?:)

What are the chances of her considering getting a gun right now? Or for that matter making sure her doors and windows are locked at night?

I've got this picture of Taco Bell dogs w/ little black leather spiked helms and collars in my head now. :)

I'm thinking a .357, 2" barreled revolver loaded with snake shot. You'll probably wanna make sure you kick them back before pulling the trigger though.

Chihuahuas are dangerous in groups! That officer could've been seriously injured!

Especially if they linked up to form Chihuatron. Form blazing annoying bark!

I was not sure what Chihuahuas were before reading the replies. I image anything would work, but to be sure I would pick my Marlin Guide Gun loaded with 405 grain bullets over a compressed load of Varget.

I feel so sorry for that officer. He did nothing wrong, he just got caught in a terribly funny situation. I'll bet he wishes he just bleed into his shoes rather than report what happened. Hopefully he has a sense of humor and can laugh at the sillyness of it.

On a more serious note, this is a good reason for police officers to wear a good grade of boot! But, given heat and humidity the steel toed jogging shoes popular in Florida have much to recommend them for scuffles and foot chases.

I saw a funnier one on a news website some months back. An officer responded to a motorist in trouble call. When he got there there was a young tom turkey that got aggressive and started chasing him. It ended up with the cop on hiding on top of his car. What's worse is that it all got captured on film.

He'll probably never live it down.

"The officer will never live it down."

No matter what he did he would get hacked on. If he shoots the little ankle biters he would be ridiculed. Same if he kicked them or hurt one or even pepper sprayed them. Some one would howl up a storm of protest.

It is a no win situation for the officer. Can you imagine all the practical jokes and one liners he is going to have to endure for quite a while??!!
