Does anyone know what a good price for an M1A bipod (original) is? I had one offered for $90. Seems high to me.

Original what?
USGI american made
USGI taiwan made
chinese, etc.
There's a few different versions out there, what are the markings on the bipod? That will help ID and assess a value

I bought my USGI American made one maybe 10 years ago for about 90$ and thought that was a decent price. If you are getting a real GI one for that price today I feel a bit foolish. My bet is it is a Chinese clone for that price.

I bought a chinese one for $30 from forrest inc. It was in good shape, and it works well. The finish is crappy though. The legs on the bipod are marked US, so I thought they might be USGI legs. I just wasn't willing to pay the $100+ that people are wanting for them.

I bought a Chinese one off CheaperThanDirt.com for my buddy. They are supposed to be copies of the USGI ones. It works great, except for like the second time out a pin holding the legs on fell out. He removed the pins and replaced by putting nails through and twisting them around, and it works fine.

If you are worried about Chinese quality (I'm not particularly worried), you could still buy two Chinese ones and still spend less than one USGI one.

If you're getting a USGI M14E2 M2 bipod for under $100 you should give the seller a kiss as you pay for it. Of course the M2 bipod was intended for the squad automaitic rifle version of the M14 and not the battle rifle so if you want to look authentic you may not want to mount the M2 bipod on an M1A that issn't dressed in an E2 stock.

If you want a bipod for shooting prone and don't want to throw off your accuracy then you should be sure to get a stock mounted bipod.

Non-Chinese junk M14 bipods include -

U. S. 7790833 BIPOD RIFLE M2. (for the M14E2)

Harris and Parker Hale bipods (typically mounted to the stock just aft of the front sling swivel. This method of attachment avoids changes in point of impact as experienced with the M2 bipod.)

Versapod (requres a modified gas cylinder plug to which their bipod fits)
