Goy me a new 625 over the weekend. Ran about 60 rounds thru it and that was it. The cylinder release button is in the forward position, can't pull the trigger, can't cock the hammer, out of bussiness. It kind of acts like the lock is engaged.

Swinging the cilynder out and in is not as easy as it should be there is something interferring with it as well.

The usual scenerio for me with a new gun, used ones too.

The cylinder release button is in the forward position with the cylinder closed? Weird.

Do me a favor, and make sure the ejector rod is tight (its a left hand thread)

The lock only engages the slot in the side of the hammer, not the cylinder release. The cylinder release bolt should not jam forward. Can you manually retract the cylinder release to the rear?

NOTE: Before you try to swing the cylinder in and out, is the "hand" fully retracted back into the breech face slot?

The cylinder pin (coming out of the star) is what forces the cylinder release bolt back into the frame and puts the gun in "normal" mode. Anytime the cylinder is swung out, the cylinder release goes forward and stops the hammer and trigger from operating. If you manually hold the release button to the rear with the cylinder out, you should be able to cycle the trigger and hammer normally.

If you can close the cylinder and the cyl ejector button is staying forward, it might be a bent crane which keeps the cylinder (star) pin from aligning with the hole in the frame where the release bolt pin comes out. The star pin coming out has to push the bolt pin back into the frame to allow the gun to operate.

You've got a problem with that gun, but it isn't the S&W internal lock. Call up S&W and send it back.

Sounds like another Smith & Wesson quality control problem.

I've seen ejector rods back out and cause all manner of strange and horrible problems. I use a little bit of removable Lock Tite on mine.

Spoke with customer service today and it is going back. He said it sounds like an alignment problem with the yoke.

It MIGHT just be some dirt (burnt powder) under the ejector star. Hit it there with a brush before you spend money on shipping.
