That's Garand, most people mispronounce his name, it's a French name, sounds like Gar rond, he was a French Canadian.

That's a young, thin John C. Garand, sans glasses. Probably ca. 1924 or so.

But that rifle looks more like a 1917 Eddystone than a 1903 Springfield.

On third or fourth look, no it doesn't. That's probably the hand built shop prototype for the M1 Garand rifle. Look at the bolt and receiver area... it really isn't anything I know.

I've seen other pictures of Mr. Garand. He looks better in the other pics.

Good point. I just noticed the handguards, a set back rear peep sight and straight five round clips. But on closer attention, the receiver, rear sight and the bolt itself do look awfully Garand-like.
