so i live in upstate ny, i have an encore frame registered to my fathers pistol permit (still waiting on mine, god its been forever) the barrel is registered. so if i wanted to order a barrel online, do i have to have it shipped to an ffl? or because its a barrel and not a frame i can still have it sent to my house? im confused and have no idea where else to ask

edit: i want another pistol length barrel. probably 15 inch variety

I dont know of any of state in the union where a firearm barrel is restricted, order away my friend. Most retailers will have a disclaimer or warning on items not available to be shipped directly to individuals in some states.

Since most auto pistol barrels are removable and replacable, do you have to register them as well? Or just single shot pistols with interchangerable barrels?

i dont know, encores and contenders are a relatively unique system. i just wanted to get it right before the atf or some other 3 letter acronym shows up and locks me away. to counter the semi auto pistol argument, yes some change calibers (ie glock 20 can take a glock 40sw barrel etc) but idk if the same rules apply. just wanted to check:)

My point wasn't you can just change calibers but get replacement barrels for most semi auto pistols.

TC barrels must be registered on your permit. Carry the amendment form for the barrel as well as the frame if you're out hunting or at the range. I'm not sure about the FFL part. Give your county pistol clerk a call and they will be able to give you detailed instructions on how to handle acquisition.

Jobu is 100% correct. In NY, your frame serial # and barrel serial # both appear on your permit. If you are checked, and you're carrying a registered frame, but with an unregistered barrel, you can be ticketed. Each new barrel means a trip to the clerk to register it.

Barrel serial #? I don't recall that Contender barrels have serial numbers. When I was in NY, my permit showed the Contender frame by serial number, and then simply listed each of the calibers corresponding to the barrels I owned. No serial numbers on the latter; just the calibers.

But in answer to the original question, yes, you have to have each caliber listed.
