I've a S&W k38 Xpolice pistol with a bad barrel.
replacemewnt bbl's only go to 6", but modl 14 or 15 goes to 8 3/8"; if they will exchange between ?
Anyway to get a longer barrel than these?
A foot or so wouldn't be bad, thanks
robert

You can put on any length barrel you want - all you have to do is find the barrel! :D

You could talk to S&W about putting on any of their standard-length barrels, or go to someone like Clark Custom Guns (http://www.clarkcustomguns.com/), who put custom barrels on revolvers, and they could cut you one to your desired length from a barrel blank, tap it to fit the K frame barrel cut-out, and install it for you. They do this routinely for competition guns.

Fair question!
My Father (71) has but one eye that works and cannot use either a scope or sights, and carries a j-frame, Believes that a long barrel will allow him a reference to extend his effectiveness to ten or fifteen yds.
Also coupled with a purple suit I could ask folk,
"Ever dance with the devil in the pale moon light"?
Lastly in a more serious vein, like every firearm I've gotten since I was 20,
cause i want one, and its such a waste to have this k-frame with such a
SLICK action setting useless with a bad barrel
Thanks

We need to know exactly what model K-frame revolver you have, and if it has a standard (pencil) barrel or a heavy (ribbed) one. At issue is how well the barrel will fit up against the frame, although you may not care.

The maximum standard length barrel made for the K-38 Target Masterpiece (model 14) was 8 3/8" which will give you a sight radius of about 10". This barrel would correctly fit most K-frame's that were made for a heavy barrel, but if your gun had fixed sights something would have to be done about the excessively high front sight.

Anything else would require a custom barrel, and maybe a detent lock between the yoke and frame. The "yoke" is the part the cylinder swings out on. Expect this sort of thing to be expensive, but the revolver would likely be a tack-driver.

If you go to King's Gun Works of Burbank, California, you can get any length barrel that you want for the S&W Model 10. They are "Past Masters" at the art of revolver smithing.

Go to www.kingsgunworks.com and see if they can help you in your quest.
