Later this year, I am contemplating getting a crossbow. I know a lot about handguns, but this is a new topic for me, and I know nothing about it.

I do not want to buy something, and then later learn that I should have bought something else.

I do not plan to hunt, but I still would like a decent set up. My eyes are not the best, so I want something with a scope, instead of a red dot. I also want some sort of auto cocking system. I know there are a couple of possibilities for this. Am willing to spend up t $500-$600.

Any advice would be helpful.

its not the greatest but i after shooting it for fun i can say drop the small "arrows" get the metal barrel arrows i pulled the tips and made some broadheads for it and i am now convinced that if worst came to worst i can take small game with it perhaps even deer if i am dang carefull of shot placement though with deer i think i would have to try a head shot to be 100% shure but for rabbit its deadly not to mention what to does to parer targets lol

keep in mind i just use this for fun but it nice to know if i need it to it can step up and do a more serious job

Any Horton Crossbow and one of their EZ cocker devices. Horton makes good stuff.

Head on over to http://www.archerytalk.com. You should be able to find all you ever wanted to know about crossbows over there. Just be sure to post any questions in the crossbow forum. Based on what little I have read (I do not own a crossbow) Excalibur and TenPoint are frequently mentioned as the "best".

Look at the horton line with the money you have to spend, I have a 10 point that is really a great crossbow,,but really expensive. I regularly hunt with a friend who uses a horton Yukon I believe, it does good for half the money I paid. All modern crossbows are set up for glass optics I believe, I have a Bushnell Holo sight on mine, it works well.

I have been pleased with my Parker"Terminator" crossbow. Got it at Cabelas...bow, quiver, 4 arrows, red dot scope(I know you mentioend scope, not red dot), as a package $529 or somewhere there about. I got the string type, use your muscle and pull cocking device. Not really hard to do. That would save you quite a few bucks! VERY ACCURATE! I also looked at the Ten Point line, but could not justify the extra expense. Good Luck.
