Family is driving from TN to Gulf Shores, AL, for a long weekend. I have a TN carry permit (and am a TN resident) but Alabama has no reciprocal agreement with TN. Can you keep a gun in your car in AL legally?

Good Reason for a FL Non-Res for future considerations.

According to my copy of GUN LAWS OF THE 50 STATES, for Alabama : "Handguns must be unloaded and cased in the trunk or storage area unless one has a permit to carry; loaded rifles and shotguns may be carried in the passenger area in plain view or secured in a gun case."

Scotjute is right with the handguns. I'm not sure about the rifle and shotgun statement, I thought that only applied to hunting. I'll have to look into that. In all honesty though, I don't pay a lot of attention when I see a truck or other vehicle with a gun rack full of guns so I never really gave it enough thought to research the law on it.
Also Gulf shores state park used to have a "no firearms" policy but it was not strictly enforced.
