Eight people shot, one killed, over three days in Saginaw

SAGINAW, Mich. (AP) -- A shooting spree on city streets left a teenager dead and two men wounded, bringing to eight the number of people shot over a three-day period.

Police and residents said gangs may be responsible for the violence, which has plagued a neighborhood that previously was neutral turf.

But officers said they are nowhere close to solving any of the cases.

"We can't get anybody to talk to us, give us any information," said Detective Sgt. Mark Lively, who is frustrated by the progress of the investigation.

"They just make up stories as they go. If we don't get any cooperation, it's pretty ... difficult for us to bring it to a successful conclusion," he said Wednesday.

Lively said police are investigating whether some of the victims had gang ties, but so far nothing has been confirmed.

A street where some of the shootings occurred may have been claimed as turf by a gang, he said.

About 6:20 p.m. Tuesday, Jimahle L. Donald, a Saginaw Township 17-year-old, was shot in the head and killed.

The gunman had just shot another man nearby when he encountered Donald, police told The Saginaw News.

The first shooting on Tuesday occurred about 5:20 p.m. about a mile from the other shootings, police said. A 31-year-old man was wounded when a gunman fired on his car as he drove through the neighborhood.

About an hour later, a 24-year-old man was shot in the abdomen as he answered a knock at the door of a home. The shooter ran for about two blocks, where he shot Donald, apparently at rand

Update Friday 6 2006 two more shot one dead one in the hospital.

One dead, one injured as Saginaw shootings continue

SAGINAW, Mich. A woman was killed and a male companion was critically injured early today in the latest round of violence that has plagued Saginaw's south side.
Brittany Harry died at a hospital after being shot around 2 A-M. Deonte (Day-on-tay) Hood is in critical condition. Police said both 19-year-olds were shot as they sat in an S-U-V.

Detectives have no suspects in today's shootings.

Ten people have been shot in Saginaw since Sunday, and two of them have died.

Detectives say the shootings may be gang-related. A gang has claimed a street where several shootings occurred as its turf.

They even shoot people by accident when using celebratory gunfire on New Years eve. The idiots can't even point straight up, they just put it out at a 45 degree angle and let fly. Since I live in a nearby city, I hear about the crime problem and shootings in Saginaw all the time. Inefficient city government, haven't raised the city budget since around 1979, keep laying off police, unemployment keeps going up, and then people complain about crime. Small wonder people are moving out of the area.

I grew up not far from Saginaw. It was a blue collar town in the 1960s, a bit gritty here and there, and a lot of the buildings were old, but it seemed a steady sort of place. Once in a great while, my father would take the family to dinner at the Schook (spelling?) Hotel. No one could have imagined in those long-lost days the city would end up in the hands of juvenile gangsters.
