Well the Smith Mod 19 I picked up today (the one I bought last week) is beautiful, but I just noticed that on the right hand side, just behind the trigger, the screw used on the sideplate is a flat head flush fitting screw, not domed shaped like the other two screws on that sideplate.

Is this a replaced screw? Maybe sombody mucked it up trying to get to the innards? I do notice that the single action trigger pull is quite easy, I'm guessing less than 2 pounds. The hammer spring looked normal, and everything else seems to check out ok. What do you folks think, do I have the right screw? Does the screw and the light trigger pull make anyone think I should let a pro smith take a look at this gun? I hadn't dry fired it when I bought it, not that I think it's a problem at 2 pounds, as I'd only use single action on the range most likely.

Relax...

All that happened is that someone who poped the sideplate (and probably shouldn't have) mixed up the screws when he put the gun back together. Probably all of this will be blamed on his dog or kid... :neener:

Remove the stocks. If you're not sure how to do it, come back and ask. Under the grips is another sideplate screw, and the flat-headed screw is the one that should be under the stocks, but isn't. Remove that screw and put the flat-headed one back where it should be. Then put the other one back in the hole where the flat-headed one was.

Clear as mud...?? :eek: :D

Edited to add: If you feel the trigger pull is to light either consult with an EXPERIENCED gunsmith, or play it safe and return it to Smith & Wesson's repair department.

thanks for the quick answer Old Fluff. Now that you mention it I see paw prints from his dog on the frame :rolleyes:

It's nice to know the gun is original, though I'm not that much a purist, I could have lived with it awhile. Your easy fix will make me sleep much easier tonight :) The previous owner put Pachmeyer grips on the gun, maybe he wanted his grip to the trigger to be smooth??!!

In any case, I'll reverse those two screws in a few minutes, thanks for the tip. It's nice to find guys like you who are willing to share their knowledgewith us.
