I'm wondering if anyone can give me some advice on how to verify if an M1-D is the real thing. I've read here and elsewhere that there are alot of fakes out there. Can anyone tell by the serial number?

Thanks,
Kel

KelBench400,

You can contact the CMP by written letter and they can check to see if the rifle has ever passed through their system.

If their research shows that it did, they can tell you in what form it was in when it left their facility, i.e. standard M1 or as an M1-D.

They can also tell you to whom it was sold, BUT ONLY IF YOU GIVE THEM THE NAME FIRST. They will verify that it was sold to "John Doe", only if you ask, "was this rifle sold to a Mr. John Doe"? They wil reply with a "YES" or a "NO". If you ask, "who bought this rifle from the CMP"?.... the answer will be "No Comment".

They will give you your answer in written form on CMP letterhead from what I understand. Fee for the research and letter is $20 I think.

Best regards,

Hmmm, My M-1D that came from the CMP does not show up on that list.
