A pawnshop advertised this as a Model 15 with some holster wear. Well, it is worn a bit but it's actually a Combat Masterpiece (Pre-15) made in 1950-51.

They were asking $135 and I was reaching for my wallet. :D

My first instinct is to ask what state you live in.

My second is to ask what decade.

Awesome!

$135??? You STOLE that gun! :D

I suggest you donate it to the church to erase this blot on your conscience. Send it to me for appropriate disposal...

What state do you live in?! All I ever see in pawnshops here is hideously overpriced junkers, hideously overpriced S&W revolvers, and scuffed-up Kel-Tecs and Glocks, both selling for about $100 over list price. Even a beat-to-hell Charter .38 tends to be well over $200 on the tag.

I actually had a thread not too long ago about gun shopping in Pawnshops. There are some crazy deals to be had, but very rarely will the casual shopper find them, because quite frankly, guys that are serious about bargains get to them well before they spend much time under the glass. My dad, who is a diehard pawnshopper, has built good enough relationships that he will often get calls before the guns are put out for the public, which isn't uncommon. One strategy that my dad and I both use it to establish a theoretical maximum price that we will pay, mention it to the guy, who will then either laugh at us, sell it to us, or tell us that if it hasn't sold by such and such date he will sell it to us for X price, which is which is usually higher than our theoretical max, but almost always lower than our actual max. Not to toot my own horn, but if you do a search you should be able to find that thread, and I think it offers a lot of good info on shopping for guns in a pawn shop. Thatguy got a great deal, but I am not particularly surprised that he got it from a pawnshop!

Decent pawnshop deals are pretty rare. But if you look long enough you may find one. This was my first pawnshop purchase in about three years. I'm still kicking myself over passing on a 3.5" 27-1 (uncommon model) in a pawnshop two years ago priced at $350. It was pretty rough but I wish now that I had bagged it.

I just walked out of a cop shop the other day with a model 10-6 and a 13-2 for $100 and $125 each. not mint but not bad either. Manager said I can have them sit here for months at 200 per or sell them to you for this.

I was happy to pull them off his inventory.

Yessir, You almost paid enough for the stocks. It's fun when you win one.:)

I have made some really good deals, but I have also bought a few lessons.
