Going to go shooting at the infamous Dump next Saturday at either 10 or 11 a.m. So far there are three of us going, rain or shine.
If you're interested in shooting and meeting new people, come on up. It's usually great fun and a nice drive too.
If you need directions, I'll be happy to give them to you.

Carlos,
Where's the dump located? How far from Salem? I may have some free time this weekend to get out.

Yeh were is this dump ?
I live in McMinnville and I go to a place up on Meadowlake road past the dam. Just a pit of red mud, but seems to be quite popular.

A shooting buddy affectionately named the place "The Dump" because low life types dump their soiled carpet, and other crap there.
The Dump is 10+ miles past Estacada on Hwy 224. My odometer never tells the same story twice. When you get to the Memaloose Bridge, it's another two miles, off the left side of the road and pretty easily identifiable - and there's a high-tension wire tower right by where you park.
The range is approximately 85 yards, with a hillside as the backdrop. Great for shooting clays.
Come on up and meet some new shooters.

LOL. At least you can get her to go with you.
As far as the drive goes, it's pretty much highway speed the whole way. Beautiful drive to boot!! The road parallels the Clackamas River much of the way. It's Heaven on Earth up there.

As it was known many years ago? Near Douglas Ridge Rifle Club?
When I lived in Portland (when SIG and Sauer were separate companies) I used to shoot there. Or up past Rhodedendron at the rock quarrie/dump.
Have fun guys, too far for me to make it this time.

I get a chance to shoot once in a while at Douglas Ridge. I'll be joining up real soon, so I can drive out after work and work on my 308 reloads at the bench.
The Dump is for Bumpin for sure!! :) Sorry you can't join us.

I'm going up near Mary's Peak (Corvallis/Philomath area) to shoot. anyone who wants to come PM me and we'll set a link-up point.
Carlos

Hi guys. I'm new here and was referred to this thread by a fellow Oregonian THR member. I live in Portland (westside) and as I said in my other thread I'm getting back into target shooting etc.
What dealers (hopefully in the Portland area) would you recommend that I visit to be able to touch and handle several different handguns. The ones that I'm most interested in currently are H&K, Glock, SigSauer, and Ruger. I'm looking for a shop with good prices and excellent service.
I notice you mention the Johnson Creek range are there any indoor ranges in the Portland area? I remember years ago there used to be a indoor range somewhere in Tigard (near Washington Square) that I think went out of business.
Thanks for the recommendations and advice.
MMcCall
April 10, 2003, 06:51 PM
Safado: If you're on the west side, I'd recommend The Gun Broker on Hwy 99 in Tigard. Good folks, decent prices, and they have a decent sized and varied selection.
Their address is 13500 SW Pacific Hwy, suite 26.. it's on the left-hand side if you're coming from 217. Phone's 503-639-9614.
(BTW I'm not affiliated with them except as a satisfied customer :))
dude
April 10, 2003, 08:29 PM
shoot outside (it's better for you!)
Kieth's in Gresham has a nice selection but I don't buy NIB from him as he does not stand behind the warrantys and charges more for credit cards. He has lots of used pistols though and I buy one on ocassion.
Carlos
April 10, 2003, 09:04 PM
So, Dude, you going to make it?
I notice you mention the Johnson Creek range are there any indoor ranges in the Portland area?
Johnson Creek Gun Club is on 72nd and Lamphere Street. Lamphere is a block south of Johnson Creek Blvd in southeast Portland. It's a great place to shoot. There's another indoor range a friend shoots at on 60th or so and Glisan Street. Haven't been there, so I'm guessing on the exact location. Friend swears by the place.
Mark, Wednesday evenings are regular nights to shoot with the Dump Gang and I've been shooting Thursdays with a fellow I know from downtown Portland. Haven't had as much time as I'd like to study for the test, but I'm about ready to jump in. Been enjoying building an extensive list from my scanning activities.
Keith's Sporting Goods has a good selection of guns, but Keith works there. :( If you can get around his bull****, they're a good place to do business with. Just don't expect customer service after the sale. Plain and simple.
Another route would be Northwest Armory in Milwaukie (on McLoughlin) as you head towards Oak Grove area.
Then, there's Fisherman's Marine Supply. I've purchased a Glock from these guys. I like em.
dude
April 10, 2003, 09:17 PM
nope, too busy (woman involved) and to much good shooting close-by. I'd invite y'all out for the 1000-enth time but I'd look desperate! It seems I'm driving to Biggs Saturday and perhaps picking up another P7.
I do need to pop over 'cause I have 60 or so .308 NATO tracer bullets and wanted to know if you would load up 30 for me if I provide the brass........and you can keep the other 30 (+)??

This is an indoor range at which you can rent and shoot Glocks, HKs, Rugers and Sigs to try out before you buy one of them: http://www.cccpstc.org

April 11, 2003, 12:58 PM
The PSTC is a fine range, probably the best in this state. It does have its quirks. First, its hard to tell when the cops have priority and you get to wait it out; Second, you have to use only the ammo they sell. I think thats true on targets also. Last, check on the public hours. Last time I checked the hours were very strange. Other than that its great.

April 11, 2003, 01:45 PM
Another question for the Oregon shooters:
What are the laws concerning gun ownership in Oregon? Is there a waiting period?? Ban on certain types of guns?
Thanks MMcCall for the reference--I think I'll go pay them a visit today and Keith's/NWArmory on Saturday.
MMcCall
April 11, 2003, 01:48 PM
My pleasure, and I'll second SKN's recommendation about PSTC. The range is the nicest I've shot at, and I think you'll be impressed with the classes.
As far as Oregon laws, no wierd bans, no waiting period, just FBI insta-check. CCW is easy to get, Class III ok, etc.
Schuey2002
April 11, 2003, 01:55 PM
no waiting period
You only have to wait for the FFL holder to call up the OSP and give them the gun info. It usually takes less than 5 minutes. ;)

April 11, 2003, 02:03 PM
Thanks for the quick feedback guys. I might be showing my complete newness by this question but what is a Class III arm? I'm assuming it's any arm that's automatic?

If you want class III in Multnomah County, I hear you just might as well forget it, as the sheriff won't sign off on the app.
Well, I'm leaving for the Dump tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m., arrival time 10:00.

OMG....so many guns so little time!
Just got back from a day of driving all over the place and looking at guns. My heads swimming. HK, Glock, Sig, they're all so beautiful--guess I'll have to buy one of each! :D
The folks out at The Gun Broker were unbelievably helpful. The guy at NW Armory was nice but I was a little put off when he put a big wad in his cheek and started to spit in the can next to me.
Thanks again for all the advice and help given. I'll be making my next purchase after my class at PSTC next Saturday.
Carlos
April 12, 2003, 10:00 PM
Well, don't let the wad in cheek thing ruin your day.
It's a great gunshop. Glad you explored.
I did the Dump Shoot today with a friend and it was just awesomely beautiful up there. We both shot well. Everybody else from the 10+ gang was busy. We'll do it again.
Today was a good day!!!!

Well, nobody was killed today at the range, but the targets.
Bob's Springfield Armory Pistola has some issues, but...
a great day nonetheless.

Not any more. The firing pin broke about a month ago while I was shooting it and they haven't replaced it. :uhoh:
Any leads on were to get one in OR? One of the RTOs had one for sale at the PSTC, but I haven't seen him for a while.
Looks like I'll need make a run to the Dump Shoot.

I'll be posting the Weekly Dump Shoot Notifications from here.
Looking forward to meeting new people.

H&K customer service has a very poor reputation but if you can hold out until the next gun show in Portland (a big one) there are a couple of vendors that have large H&K parts inventories. I think the next big one is April 25-26-27 at the Expo.
DavidH
April 13, 2003, 03:42 PM
Thanks for the advice. I went to the show in March but not a P7 to be found. I might go this month for another look though. I'm not totally sold on one, but it's nice to have just the option of puchasing.

For any people who live out in the Bend area, I will be coming back into town from Oregon State University this summer. I will be there permenantely. I have several friends in the Bend area that shoot pretty often. Hit me up with a message/email if you want to go sometime. I know of several range areas near Sunriver. I also have many friends in the Corvallis area that go shooting pretty often. :D

just hangin' over here on the dry side, never did make it over to Portland that weekend, sorry for not giving you a buzz. You never sent the links for tht stuff btw
I do answer my emails when they are directed at me with question or a 'what's up?'............ but have only gotten informative mass-mailings as of late from y'all about shoots & stuff. The famous dump & JC is along way off when there are so many cool shooting spots & folks here 'round the house.

Hmm, I'm looking to get out of the house tomorrow for the weekend. What are you doing this weekend?
I'll call ya.
