Fellow High Roaders, please send your prayers, good vibes, best wishes..whatever floats your boat towards the "Great" State of Nebraska today.

Today our Unicameral (We only have one house in our legislature) is debating LB 454, the concealed handgun permit law. Our governer has said that he will sign it into law if passed.

The bill appears to have the 26 vote majority required for passage.

BUT..there are opponents who are trying every parlimentary tactic to kill it. One senator is threatening a fillibuster. Takes 33 votes to invoke cloture. Don't know what will happen there, except that I take hope from the fact that the primary opponent is universally reviled in the Unicameral. Long, sad story.

Today, the LtGov is presiding over the Unicameral instead of the speaker. This is unusual, and some think it's to provide a tie-breaking vote for LB 454/cloture if needed.

I've called, emailed, and snail mailed my senator several times, as has my beloved and several friends I've talked to. He's supporting it.

Keep your fingers crossed. I'll keep you all updated as events develop.

El T...just Mon-Wed. I'm "Semi-retired" nowadays!

There's a site http://www.ccwne.com that's got a running commentary going in the section on the legislature.

The primary opponent, Sen Ernie Chambers, D-Omaha is pulling out all the stops. He's threatening to torpedo any bills sponsored by anyone who votes for LB 454, calling anyone who wants to carry a gun paranoid, and various and sundry lowlife tactics in addition to attempting a fillibuster.

Ernie is Nebraska's only (ever) black senator. He's been in the Unicameral for decades, and is term-limited out of office after this session. His antics are legion! His uniform of the day in the Unicameral is jeans and a sleeveless sweatshirt..guess he wants everybody to see those big guns. He's invited other senators outside to settle things numerous times. What a maroon!

He pitched a fit last year about the state spending moeny for prizes at the state fair because it only benefited "a few rich white kids".

Thank goodness he's gone!

One of the interesting things is that our "senator" who is threatening the fillibuster tactics, at one time had a concealed carry permit due to death threats that he had received! Another example of do as I say, not as I do by our elected officials:banghead:

Good Luck Nebraska.

It never ceases to amaze me the hypocrisy of those who holler "civil rights" and then discriminate against everybody else's civil rights, which carry of a sidearm, concealed or otherwise, certainly is. And that guy... his conduct is certainly unbecoming a senator elected to represent the people.

As an aside, I'm reminded of Ben Jones... you know, Cooter Davenport?... on the show he wore shirts with no sleeves half the time, but when he went to Congress, he dressed respectably and made sure his 600,000 constituents got their money's worth of representation. And his wife said she thought she was marrying a US Congressman and wound up with Cooter.:D Of course, fmr-Congressman Jones is white and there obviously isn't the race card agenda there this other guy is pushing. Just an observation... one of many that come to me at odd times.

As my wife is from Nebraska and most of her family is still there. GO 'HUSKERS !!!! There, I said it, now am I back in the will ???

If Wisconsin and Nebraska both pass CCW this year that will leave only two states without some form of CCW: Kansas and Illinois.

Take a wild guess at which will be #49. (Hint: It does not have a big city by a lake run by "Da Mayor".) :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

P.S. Let the windbag filibuster, if he can't tag team with another Senator, he can only go 72-96 hrs. max before he falls asleep.

P.P.S. I would hope that another distingushed Senator would point out that Senator Windbag had a CCW himself at one time.

P.P.P.S. I love hunting the Walk-in CRP fields in NE.

The Kansas Legislature passed CCW a yr or two ago....

Their RINO Governor vetoed it.

Sigh.

I live 3 miles N of the Kansas border so I'm about as likely to go to KS as I am someplace in NE.

Kansas legislature passed CCW TWICE under RINO Bill Graves and once under the current commie Frau Sebelius and was vetoed all three times ... needless to say I don't miss living in Kansas anymore.

My wife is also originally from Nebraska so I would love to see this pass (even though I doubt I'll ever actually go to Nebraska).

If Wisconsin and Nebraska both pass CCW that will be the end of it all ... Illinois will never pass CCW and neither will Kansas.

Only way a 49th state will get CCW is if Puerto Rico becomes a state and then passes CCW (of course many would say that Hawaii doesn't have CCW since they have a may issue system but never issue permits).

Good luck to you Nebraska:)

I myself am anxiously awaiting here in WI for the results of an attempt at a veto override...:banghead:

Okay, just to clarify for those of us who are out of state and late to the party.

You need 33 votes for Cloture and then a simple majority (which is how many yea votes ??) to get it passed. I know that your Governor has promised to sign it. (And has sent the Lt Gov there to be a tie breaker JIC.)

I've been following the forums on ccwne.com and wish you good luck. It'd be great to get two more states with CCW.
