I just got a Ruger Blackhawk .45 revolver that shoots .45 Long Colt rounds for 150 bucks and was wondering if I got ripped or was it a good deal? Any comments appreciated. This is my first handgun and I'm happy to have one I've always wanted one and finally got one :) Thanks again guys

That seems like a very good deal! The ruger guns like that, if I'm reading correctly, go for around 500 bucks. Don't quote me on that, though. Get another opinion, I don't trust myself.

Worth?
Every penny you paid for it. More if it serves you well.
3-screw or new? (transfer bar between hammer & firing pin = new)
Flat top?
Condition/Finish?
Barrel length?
Age? (check link below)

Nothing wrong with a single action BlackHawk in .45 Colt
In 90% condition, might fetch $250 - 300. Maybe more if you find out some answers to questions above
Oh yeah, Welcome to THR Cody
PS. Cody, be sure to check out Jim March's 'sticky' post at the top of this forum.

If I saw a Ruger Blackhawk, in _any_ caliber, for $150 in a shop I'd pounce right on it!
If it is in anything approximating usable shape, you done good. A normal, common model in good shape would usually run $275-350 at most shops I've been in.
So don't keep us in suspense, answer up on Baba Louie's questions, so we can know just how much like a bandit you made out. Earlier models might require some special handling too, so it'd be good if we can let you know what to look for. If you can get a digital pic to attach, that'd be ideal.
Out of curiousity, why did you pick the Blackhawk? Hunting, defense, fun gun, just a good deal? Certainly not a bad gun for any of the above (probably an outstanding gun for #1 and #3), but it's a somewhat unusual choice for a first gun!

I got a vaquero in 45LC with Ajax grips in rosewood for $200 but that was a screaming deal and I saw a nice Blackhawk last years in 45LC for $250 but I passed. If in decent shape and a new model, not the old 3 screw, 4250-300 would be a more than fair price. Show up pics if possible for a better estimate. Unless totally messed up looking or broken, $150 it would have been mine immediately most likely though i already have 2 45LC single action revolvers already.

$150? Even if it didn't work, Ruger would fix it probably for free. It's a steal!!

In my neck of the woods ruger single actions move slow and the gun you purchased would sell for about $225-$260 (95%or better) in a shop around here and around $200 (give or take) from a private party.
OTOH, used pre-lock S&W revolvers are very high compared to what people pay for them in other areas.

Sorry it took so long to reply, but I've been a little busy. Anyway to Baba Louie it's got the transfer bar between the firing pin, it is a flat top. Condition I would give 85%. It's stainless finish with a 6 inch barrel. Not sure on the age though, checked the serial numbers and didn't find a match? But it's a 47-6 so I would think it's a 95 or 96? And thanks for the warm welcome, sorry I didn't check the revolver sticky, I was just a little excited. And Matt I got it for defense and to just to shoot it and have fun, and as it being unusual for a first gun, I thought it was a steal and couldn't pass it up. Just wanted a hand gun. I own a Remington 870 12 guage and a 22-250 rifle, but just had to get a pistol.

Whoa, it's stainless too? Did you blackmail the owner, or just promise not to date his daughter? Seriously, I would have pounced at that price. Though after a dozen replies from other THR members saying the same thing, I take it that our point has been made!
I assume the barrel would be what Ruger calls the 5.5" length (don't believe they make a 6", but you may be measuring it differently). And this is a Blackhawk (adjustable sights), not a Vaquero (fixed sights)?
Should be a great piece for hunting and plinking, and though a little slow on the reload, plenty powerful and handy for defense if need be (though probably as a backup to your 870).
Couple suggestions for running Searches on THR:
a) if the finish is a bit scuffed, there are a variety of good products to restore it to smoothness. Here's a good thread http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=122376&highlight=flitz+stainless
b) So far as ammo, in the past I've seen 50rd boxes of Black Hills or PMC (Cowboy ammo) for $15 in some places, and www.georgia-arms.com has their "Canned Heat" bulk packs for $170/500rds of .45 Colt. It might take a little shopping around to find the best price, but it's still way cheaper to feed than your 22-250. Are you looking into handloading your own ammo for the .45 Colt? Getting into reloading would make it a lot easier to affordably feed both rifle and revolver.
Enjoy your new buy, post some pics when you get the chance,

You got screwed.
Ripped off, hosed.
Send it to me, I will cover the $150 because you are young and stupid and I feel bad for you.
Honest!
