I have a Stainless Compact series 1 that I just love. I want to get the front strap checkered, an Ed Brown grip safety installed, night sights and a stainless main spring housing installed. Kimber's custom shop has very good prices, how is the quality of their work? Will the checkering be good? How about the grip safety, will they put it on correctly with proper blending or will there be spaces between the safety and the frame? I like the idea of having the factory do the work but I am a bit afraid of sub standard work. Is there talent at Kimber's Custom Shop?

Kimber does machine checkering. The only complaint I've heard is at the edges of the checkering, there will be two "uncheckered" lines. There are two lines on each side and at the top and bottom just like on the factory models that come with checkering. They will blend the GS and refinish the frame IIRC. Let them do the night sights since it's almost impossible to remove Kimber fixed sights with normal tools.
If I were you, I'd buy a MSH from Smith & Alexander, put it in myself and save a few bucks.
