Want to install fiber optic front sight

I've got a 1911 slide with a Millet "dual post" sight installed at the moment. I'd like to install a fiber optic in it's place. Millet doesn't make a fiber optic so a direct replacement is out. The holes are spaced about 1/2 inch apart. Are there another options besides welding the holes, machining them flat then rebluing the slide or making my own front sight?
Thanks in advance,
Keith

How thick is the front sight? You could have the front sight machined to take a fiber. You will need .090" to get a .040" rod in, .125" for a .060" rod.
The best way to put the hole in would be with an EDM machine, then mill the window in the top for light to get to the rod.
I don't know of any options besides putting a fiber in your sight other than either cutting a dovetail or putting a stake-on front sight in the original hole in the slide, IIRC the millet two pin sights used the original hole and another further back. The other hole in the slide would be pretty small and not cause any problems other than cosmetic.

If your not willing to have a dovetail cut, EGW can fabricate you a sight. I had one made for a S&W M60 and they did a great job.
