I have joined the Dark Side

As a long-time 1911 and revolver guy, I bought my first Glock yesterday- a Glock 19.

Seems like a great gun, no soul of course, but a great gun anyway. I needed a 9mm (and by "needed of course I mean "wanted") and was pretty impressed by some of the trials that some glocks have gone though.

Anyway, put about 80 rounds through it at the local shootin' pit, and it works great. $519 NIB with a couple of std cap mags.

I don't own any Glocks, never really liked them. However, I think the G19 is their best and I would feel well armed with one. No worries, good choice.

My first handgun was a G19. I never thought I would own a 1911, now I have three and will probably get more. I will never stop shooting or throwing out good words for Glocks and especially my G19. Don't worry you have to nudge the soul into the Glock, then it becomes yours.

I was like you until the beginning of last year. My local gun shop was running some special pricing on refurb G22s. I bought one and purchased a 9mm conversion bbl for it and I do enjoy shooting it. Since then I bought a G21 that I keep as my truck gun. It's a little banged up, but shoots great.

I also got my CCW last summer and bought a S&W 642 for pocket carry and a G26 for IWB carry. I put the pinky extensions on the G26 mags and I shoot that way better then my 642.

The only thing though is that I shoot USPSA and every once in a while I'll bring the G22. It's fine when shooting at human sized targets, but the last time I brought it we were shooting metal popers the size of paper plates at ranges of 15-20 ft. I couldn't reliably hit those plates with the glock. Switched up to my trusty 1911 and that problem went away promptly!!! :D

As long as it always (and only) goes "bang" when you pull the little lever and puts the bullet where you aim it who cares? It's whatever you're comfortable with.

I love everything about the G19 only problem is my groups with one looks like a shotgun.

Congrats on the new pistol!

I'm pretty much a revolver fan as well, but have my eye on a Glock in 10mm or .45.

BTW, I didn't know Glock was still in business with all the XD love-fest threads I've seen around. :uhoh: Just kidding!

I've owned a few Glocks over the years...a 23, 21, 36, a 17 (for about a minute) and a 19. Of the bunch, I have come to the opinion that they do 9mm the best & the mid size frame is just about perfect. My 19 just goes bang everytime I pull the trigger, puts holes right where I want them out to a respectable range and just plain works. It may never replace my P7M8, but I like it alot
Good choice for a 1st Glock ;)

Mine was an impulse buy a couple of years ago - $ 499 and then put some trijicons on it. Was impressed with its accuracy, shootability at the range - and even more so when I had to clean it :> Took me 10 min vs 1/2 an hour - 45 min for a 1911 or revolver.

I really can't think of any serious flaws/FTF/FTE with it. Maybe the odd one or two there, but nothing that in my opnion impairs its reliability as a CCW piece. When I was evacuating from Galveston during Rita last summer I carried two guns - my SP 101......and the G19.

I'd carry and fire it more, but I'm currently working through 1000 rd case of 9x18 for my Bulgy Mak  The Mak I carry as a warm weather gun, if it gets colder I might switch to the Glock, but right now that hasn't happened.

They might be good, reliable guns...and they are, but "glamour shots" of a Glock just somehow always remind me of a Soviet swimsuit competition... :D

Because they know it is wrong, yet they do it?

I must be the only one on these forums that actually likes the aesthetics of Glocks. There's just something I like about the appearance. It just says "I'm functional. I do a job and I do it well." Not to say I don't enjoy the graceful lines of my own BHP, but I've just always liked the look of a Glock.

Oh, and to be even more unusual, I think SIGs are ugly... :neener:

I put Glocks in the same category as Ruger autos. Everyone I know that uses one loves it, I can't hit with them. I hope you can. For me, the dark side means a lot of sound and fury, but no holes in stuff I'd like holes in.

Glocks RULE the IDPA "service pistol" category where I was shooting. Nearly everyone shot Glock in the class and we had one master class guy over there shooting one. That guy was awesome to watch with that thing.

I've never had a Glock, more a Ruger guy. I could never justify the price for a Glock considering the price of Rugers and how good they are. That don't mean I don't like Glocks, though. I think I was about the only Ruger shooting over there. Lots of competitors, too. Heck, I kind of enjoyed being the odd guy.:D
