Can a Ruger GP-100 be made into something special?

I have been over this ground before. The Colt Python is too finicky for my tastes and has a pull type cylinder release. The S&Ws have better stock triggers than Rugers, but the latter are built like tanks.
I have come to like the Ruger cylinder catch better because I am left handed and the push button is easier for me than a S&W push catch. The Rugers also come in my favorite barrel length--3 inches.
My questions are these: Can a Ruger trigger be "salvaged" to be the equivalent of a Smith trigger? Who could modify the cylinder to accept moonclips? Are there any DA Ruger gunsmiths of note?
Since Ruger doesn't have anything like the perfomance center, I am trying to find someone who could do high level work on these revos in case I decide to get one.

Yes, your Ruger can be customized by an experienced pistolsmith along the lines you described. I will provide two links. However be aware that "best work" is expensive, and both are backordered so the work will take time, perhaps longer then you might like.
It would be less expensive to buy a Smith & Wesson or Colt Python. But you like the Ruger, which is an excellent if somewhat rougher gun, and in your case the extra expense might be well worth it. A high-quality custom gun is something special.

Patience will 'fix' the Ruger trigger, lots of dry-firing and it'll be as good as a S&W (IMO). I Actually prefer mine to any S&W I've fired...lf course it's mine ;-)

Jack Weigand did trigger and other work on my Super Redhawk, which shares the same lockwork as the GP. Fantastic double/single pulls, very smooth. Not sure if he still offers gunsmithing services, recently had some health problems.

I had a local gunsmith do trigger work on my GP.SA was less than 3 lbs. and DA although still alittle heavy was sliker than snot.I also had him polish the trigger itself(the edges were cutting into my trigger finger(I know,I'm a Nancy). My Gp was the most accurate gun most of my friends have ever shot, and some of these guys have been around awhile.
Look around and you'll find people who can do good work.Don't go to some w/ no reputation or who nobody you know has had work done by. good luck:cool:
And YES Ruger NEEDS a performance center!!!:D

Teddy Jacobson at www.actionsbyt.com did a great job on my Security Six. I would highly recomend giving him a call.
