When the casull 454 came out, i thought it was too bad they didn't choose 457 magnum as the name of the cartridge. To me it just makes sense. You have the same relationship between 454 and 45 longcolts as 357magnum and 38 special. Plus, even to the only slightly gun familiar, 357 magnum spells power, and 457 easily conjures up MORE power. (just like kids will say 'i'll shoot you with a 12 guage!...oh yea, well i'll shoot you with a 1200 guage, or a 13 guage, or whatever the kid thinks sounds bigger)

S&W came out with the 460, and again, I say to myself, they should have named it the 457 magnum. It just seems so appropriate,

I'm not so sure. We've just got too many people with dyslexia in the 'States. It could lead to all sorts of a disappointment and frustration at the shooting range!

I can picture it now:
"Hey, mister, these bullets just fall right out of my gun!"
[Clint Eastwood voice]"Well, no wonder. You've got here a .457 Magnum, one of the most powerful guns in all the world. And a box of .357 rounds. So what you've got to be asking yourself, pal, is, 'Did I keep the receipt?' Well, didja?"
"Uhhhh..."

Or not. Me, I'm waitin' for the .763 Magnum, all these itty bitty rounds are for sissies! ;)

Isn't the .457 Magnum the name of the slightly longer 45/70 that Wild West Guns converts Marlins to?

.457 Magnum is too close to .458 Magnum.
The name is a lawsuit waiting to happen.
