Black rifle lovers, if you could have a US made legal version of one of these....
Correia
April 9, 2003, 02:38 PM
which would you pick?
Currently we can get legal versions of ARs, FALs, CETMEs, M1as, AKs and a few others. Now we have the AR-180b, the M96, and the Bushy bullpup.
But there are lots of groovy black rifles out there in the rest of the world.
Which one of these would you like to see available for mass consumption? Imagine that it was produced here, and was available for around the price of a nice AR.

Sig 550 or the IMI Tavor.
There are only really two bullpup options available in the US: The Steyr AUG, which runs four figures, and the Bushmaster M17, which while cute has a number of problems.
I think that a bullpup that cost about as much as an AR-15 and took the same magazines would offer a lot of versatility.

SIG 550 or G36. If and its a big if, they could be had for the price of an AR 15. If they cost more than an AR, they are nothing but useless Eurotrash as far as I'm concerned. I think alot of others feel the same as not too many SIGs were sold when they could come here because of their outrageous price.
The reality is that one is little more than a pretty AK with above average accuracy, and the other is an AR 18 derivitive in starwars clothing.

AN94. Unique in operation.

April 9, 2003, 08:08 PM
AS a collector I would like to see all of them built and sold in sem-auto configuration. I have used full auto weapons and I still prefer the semi-auto.
When you get down to the serious buisness of hitting what you are aiming at the full auto is good only for point blank shooting providing you also have an unlimited supply of ammo handy, not something that is available all the time in combat.
MLC
April 10, 2003, 12:21 PM
But since the rifle would undoubtably be in semi auto only I voted for the Sig 550. The AN 94's burst setting is its selling point, without that and sans the muzzle break/high frequency whistle that the ATF would surely call a flash hider the AN loses much of its cool.

Yeah seriously... WHERE'S MY SA 80?????There are bits of it here...and there. Just keep wandering around southern Iraq -- enough parts have probably fallen off various rifles that if you collect enough of them, you'll be able to put together your very own SA 80.

Blain, the Sig 550 seems to be a .5 MOA rifle that has the bolt system of an AK. That may well be an improvement over the M16.
After having voted for the 550, I feel like I should have voted for the oddball FAMAS. A bullpup, non-HK delayed blowback .223! Neat-o. It even has real sights, instead of a dot sight.

4v50 Gary, you should check out the AEK 971. It is apparently more stable in full auto that the AN 94. Also available in 7.62x39.AEK 971 info (http://world.guns.ru/assault/as34-e.htm)

Pardon my ingorance, but what exactly is it about the 550 that has everyone so captivated?
I'd play with a Steyr AUG for the right price. I could sell a boatload of 'em to the kids I used to work with that play CounterStrike.
In all honesty, I'd be happy with a select fire Mini AK. Cheap ammo, reliable, convinient. Or an MP5SD. You could shoot anytime. Of those listed, the the FN FNC or the G36.
These kinds of rifles just don't really blow my hair back that much. Now a beautifully blued Mauser in an oddball cartridge like the 17 Remington with a hand oiled custom stock... that's what I'm talkin' about. :p

Yes, I find it unforunate that even The People's Republic of Canada lets their citizen's own a civilian version of the 550. Why we in the land of the free have such messed up import laws is beyond me. I'm all for letting the overseas folks being allowed a level playing field (or at least a more level playing field), but I doubt I'll live to see that day. Till then I can look at pictures and pray that Sig opens up a US plant I guess. :(

Sorry about the very poor picture quality, but this is from a trip to the range a few weeks ago... :D
BTW, that little Sig is surprisingly easy to shoot accurately at 300 meters, despite the 14 inch barrel... and it looks even cuter with its suppressor attached.

Hey all,
I want a Vulcan Armerment V-73 ( Galil copy ) :what:
but i'm not sure if I want 308 or 7.62x39 ( uses ak mags)
this is the blip from thier site:
The Vulcan Arms V73 Series rifles are recreations of the famous Israeli Galil rifles. The V73 feature 100% parts interchangeabililty with the originals, and accept all original accessories and magazines. The receivers are made in the USA from a single block of tool steel.
We offer these rifles in four configurations (100 AR, 110 ARM, 120 Sniper, and 130 Micro) and 3 calibers: 5.56 (.223), 7.62x51(.308), and 7.62x39. The 7.62x39 caliber rifles accept standard AK magazines. All rifles feature folding stocks and flash suppressors. (Scope and Mount are sold separately)
Each V73 comes with muzzle brake/flash hider, sling, manual, hard case, cleaning kit, oiler, gun lock, and Vulcan logo knife - a $255 value!
or Red Stick Arms sells a Galil too, pluss im sure they would convert for Fal or Ak mags

Huh, since this thread was started, four years ago, 4 out of 10 of those rifles are available (or about to be released) in the U.S.
A couple folks are re-working the Steyr, Galil special-production runs come out every so often, and the FN2000 and Sig556 are shipping "any day now".
Wonder what the scene will be like four years from now when this thread is again dragged from the grave.

Beretta AR-70.
There is already a U.S. receiver made for the AR-70, and Numrich has parts kits. The problem is by the time you get a parts kit, buy the required U.S. parts and build one up including the cost of gunsmithing you are looking at around $1800. :barf: Too much for a clone when an original goes for a little over 2k.
If someone could build a quality copy of one of these rifles for around a thousand bucks I would be in.

Buzz, I put a long update in the current Nightcrawler thread. Basically it was ready to be self published, (after over a year of rejection) when I was contacted by a big publishing house. It's gone up the chain there, and is sitting on the bosses desk. So now I'm waiting. If I'm rejected, then it will take about two months for the book to be available. If I'm picked up, then it goes on their schedule, but it would be available at pretty much every bookstore in the country. So back to waiting.

You can always borrow a G36 from a "special cop" or from a police station and you return it once your done playing with it you can keep it up to a month.Galils are hard to get but if you go to Israel you can ask one of the friendly Isralean police officers they will let you borrow the galil for a few days. You got to ask nicely and you cant have a bad criminal record. :)
