Hi,

Please help by signing th petition to get rid of the illegal handgun registration process in Michigan. It is a real pain. Everytime you want to purchase a handgun you have to apply for a "Purchase Permit" at your local police dept. Then after you get your permit and buy your gun you have to bring it back to the police dept. to have it inspected and re-registered.

They call it a "safety inspection" but all they do is check you out and register the serial number of the pistol. It is an illegal process, that is why they call it a "safety inspection". The clerks who do the inspecting don't know which end of the gun the bullet exits.
Most of the time they hassle you and make you wait in line until they get done with lunch.

Signed, #233. When I've taken guns in for "safety inspection" they just look at them, then record the SN, if they can FIND it! I've had to show them where it was, such as on an Argentinian Ballister Molina 45 ACP. Stamped in big numbers, on the slide and frame.

it's easy here in my town, because our police dept. is so small, but that's beside the point.

I grew up in Michigan. It's no accident that the state's slightly round-about firearms registration scheme was enacted shortly after the 1967 Detroit riots.
