72 guns handed in by one woman
Exclusive By Chris Pragnell, South London Press
THE capital's gun amnesty is enjoying record results after a south London woman handed in 72 rifles in one go.
Cops were left speechless when the woman called in after finding the arsenal in the basement of her family home.
The haul, thought to be the capital's biggest single hand-in, included 66 Rim-Fire .22 rifles - classified by police as deadly 'section one' firearms.
After taking the call last week, officers attended the house in Queenstown Road, Battersea, and took charge of the cache.
Inspector Tony Davies, of Wandsworth police, told the South London Press: "We could not believe it.
"So far we'd had about eight guns handed in, so you can imagine our surprise.
"Just think what the hand-in will do to the Met's over-all figures. I've never heard of anything like it."
A spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Police's Specialist Operations Unit confirmed the rifles had been handed in as part of the national gun amnesty. "I think you can safely say this is the biggest number of weapons handed in in London in one go," she said.
The rifles had been kept by the owner of a shooting range in Battersea Park which closed down around 30 years ago.
The owner died, and her daughter found the guns stashed away in the basement.
Insp Davies said: "We're extremely grateful.
"There's nothing untoward about these guns, but, in the wrong hands, they could have caused mayhem."

Cops were left speechless when the woman called in after finding the arsenal in the basement of her family home. Was she a wealthy heiress with the last name Croft? ;)

Wanna bet they were all single shot "gallery guns" used with .22 shorts and possibly smoothbores? I know, I know, evil sniper rifle, I'll get it right eventually.

Oh thank goodness! A large collection of the choice crime weapon, the .22 rifle, found and secured. How many hundreds of lives have been saved by keeping these weapons of mass destruction out of the hands of street thugs? Thankfully, we'll never know!

Rarely does a day pass when I fail to feel grateful to our forefathers for having rebelled against the English and founded a republic.
The English would have been happier as a Nazi subject state.

I was wondering if he just hits the button to pop that one out every time the word 'Britain' comes up round here.
If the club or gallery only operated .22s then no certificate was needed (at that time anyway).

Looks like the criminals will just have to settle for 12" kitchen knives, meat cleavers and cricket bats.
Oh yeah, and Uzi 9mms and sawn off shotguns.

I'd bet that a lot of those are single shot Martini actioned target rifles. Really a serious threat to the peaceful sheep of britain. Did y'all catch the "just think what this will do for our statistics" quote from the idiot inspector? Sad, sad, sad. By the way I collect
Martinis, sigh. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Uh oh, so that'd qualify my Garands, Remington 870, and Marlin 336w as WMD, according to the brits?
EDIT: I'm joking/being sarcastic. :D

Gun haul not to be rifled with

PICTURED above is the massive arsenal of rifles handed in by one south London woman as part of the national gun amnesty.
Cops were stunned last week when they had a call to collect 72 deadly firearms from a Battersea home - now safely under lock and key at Wandsworth police station.
Inspector Tony Davies told the South London Press how the guns were found. He said the owner of the home in Prince of Wales Drive was clearing out her basement when she made the shock discovery. "We're told her mother used to run a shooting range in Battersea Park," he said. "The range shut down some 30 years ago, and her daughter had assumed the rifles had been disposed of.
"Her mother has since passed away, but to her amazement the lady found the guns were still in storage."
Sixty-six of the weapons were .22 Rim-Fire rifles, says Insp Davies. Though elderly, they are still classified as 'section one' firearms by cops.
Insp Davies said: "I think they were often used by aristocracy, out of hunting season, on city ranges.
"They're in safe hands now!"

This doesn't really add much to the original story, but that quote at the end really made me chuckle.... They've been around, probably longer than the Inspector who was interviewed, but only NOW are thay in "safe hands".

I don't know about you guys but seeing Euros disarmed does not upset me. We had to fight them several times last century. We will have to fight them again. The less they know about weaponry and the more helpless they are the better.
