I will be going to Alaska in a couple of months to work. I will be taking my S&W 629 with me as my primary weapon. I have been looking around with the ammo companies for a decent load but most are mild 2XX grain JHP's. I looked in my Ammo and Ballistics book under .44 mag and found a 305 grain FP penetrator by Cor-Bon. This seems to be a decent round. I will not be hunting bears, rather it's just for self defense. I will not be doing my own loads because I don't have a die for the .44 yet so I will need a factory loaded box.

You might also want to consider Buffalo Bore (http://www.buffalobore.com) ammunition. They make some loads that are real stompers.:D
