Hi,

I could use a little advice. For varmint hunting (no bigger than coyote) I have the following: .17HMR, .204 Ruger and .30-06. Think it would make sense to have something between the .204 and the .30-06, which, of course, isn't really a varmint caliber? I was thinking along the lines of a .22-250 but not restricting myself to that. I'm thinking about more killing power at longer range than the .204 can provide.

between 20 and 30 would be 25... 25-06 comes to mind first. 6mm remington 2nd, and 22-250 third...

i haven't worked w/ the 204 at longer ranges, but can tell you the 22-250 is very explosive on prairie dogs out to 400-ish yards, and will still kill coyotes to to around 500...

the 204 with a 40 grn bullet has a higher b.c. and s.d. than the 22 250 with less noise less recoil. you can put a long bbl, long heavy scope on a 204 , and when firing , maybe even with a bbl deresonator, you will see the impact through your scope. there is also longer bbl life withthe 204. so if you allready have one, you dont need the 22 250. now as far as the 6mm old remmy 's go or a 25-06 goes, these are the best long range varmint cartridges ever made , they are very versatile, you can shoot groundhogs to deer with them , and you can get them out to 600 yds, if you are up to the shot.

I used to varmit hunt with a 6mm Remington and absolutly love it. 25-06 would also be a good choice.....probably a little more popular.

Upon innitially reading your post, I immeadiately thought .25-06 or .257 Roberts. But that point has been made. Study up on the .25s, I believe you will find it fills in nicely. Not to say anything against the .22-250, I love both of mine, but that caliber will simply put your .204 on the shelf.
