I was a bit shocked when I heard about this. Is this true? I thought those DSA FALs could eat anything you fed them.

Crappy ammo can cause failures or kaBooms in the best of weapons.
Now, as to whether or not that list is reasonable...that's another question. Just eyeballing it, most if not all of that ammo has been identified as causing function problems in many good rifles.
Sounds like DSA wants you to make sure your "broken" rifle actually fails to function or has crappy accuracy with some non-cruddy ammo before you send it back.

Well, it looks like I'll be sticking to my plans then. Once I obtain one of their FALs, I was planning on buying a bundle of 960 rounds of S. African ammo. I didn't see that on the list, so I assume it'll be safe. I was surprised to find that Wolf ammo was on the list. I always considered that Wolf made pretty good ammo. Sure, it's pretty damned dirty (then again, it's surplus), but I've never had problems with it.

Wolf is steel-cased, which can be rough on guns designed for brass-cased ammo. Do a search for Wolf, and you'll see that people tend to argue about how big of a deal this is.
I'll bet that they're mostly concerned about wolf ammo in their ARs.

That's probably right. I may try a couple rounds through the gun of Wolf if I ever get my hands on some. I read a thread somewhere on here about a FAL blowing up due to the ammo and gas settings. It was Wolf, ironically enough. I'll steer clear of it either way, I've found it's cheaper to buy more from S. Africa anyway.

Wolf is steel-cased
That general statement is now not quite accurate since Wolf is now exporting "Wolf Gold" that is brass-cased with boxer primers.

I've shot Wolf through my Glock 19. It's hot, but really (I mean really dirty).
For the AK's and SKS's...probably not a problem. I don't think I'd shoot it through a higher quality rifle though.
And, I don't think I'd buy Wolf again. If Russian ammo gets common again, I'd buy a thousand or so rounds of the sealed up ammo though. Downside...got almost a thousand rounds of 9mm.

Also, most suggested that the cause was NOT the ammo based on the information available.
I have shot several hundred rounds of Wolf .223 through my Armalite AR with no problems. It is accurate enough, seems to be consistent, and reliable. I have never tried the .308.
I have some South African .308 ammo that has worked well for me so far.

Yeah, last I saw on that thread, it was a rifle of unknown make and ammo made by wolf. The ammo is only half of the equation.
