View Full Version : Virtual Match Nostalgia February (without tally)

Here's a thought. We've had some great matches, thanks to the work of some very dedicated people. Why not just re-shoot those matches? I won't keep tally, so each of us will have to decide for ourselves who was in what place.

After all, these are primarily an excuse to go to the range and blow holes in paper.

So now, I've got a legitimate reason to go to the range in February. And of course, anyone can start early.

So here's the one we shot last year at this time. Have fun. I will.

THR Virtual Match - February 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SLOW AND STEADY WINS THE RACE

For those who may not be familiar with the general rules of the matches please see the rules FAQ .

This months contest will measure your accuracy and consistency. You must be able to make hits on the target many times without missing. Once you miss on a target you are done. Your mission is to get the longest string of bullseyes as you can before you miss.

The targets are small (1” circles) so this will be an extreme challenge at long ranges. Don't get cocky. Start out fairly close and work your way out to longer ranges if you can.

Scoring:
Scoring will be based on the number of hits before a miss and distance.

The ‘range’ (target distance) is YOUR CHOICE. However, I will use the range of all entries to normalize the scores. The longest successful ranges will get higher final placement in the rankings.

REMEMBER: You must shot the target in sequence and STOP when you have a miss. [If you do shot more targets after the miss only the hits prior to the miss count for the match score.]

The final score you report must include :
THR NAME
CLASS
# of shots(hits) before a miss
Target Distance (yards)

PISTOL STOCK CLASS - Standard pistols with barrels 6" or less
PISTOL IMPROVED - Pistols with significant improvements from out-of-the-box or pistols with barrels more than 6".
PISTOL SCOPED - Any scoped pistol
RIFLE STOCK CLASS - Standard rifles with iron sights
RIFLE SCOPED - Any scoped rifle
AIRGUN PISTOL- unscoped airgun
AIRGUN RIFLE - unscoped air rifle

3 entries per shooter in up to 3 classes allowed this month. (i.e. you can shoot up to 9 targets, three in each class; Hint:you may wish to try the target at three different distances, perhaps.)

The target can be found HERE

Wonderful idea. Have at it!

Some of the targets are hosted on my web space and I will try to remember not to erase them. Someone may want to archive them in case I decide to cancel my account with AOL someday and forget about the targets.

RJM - Take care that you don't get sucked into doing to much to run the nostalgia matches. Seems like a good approach with low effort.

And, you should probably include a link to the previous match thread each month so people can see how it was done before. It may reduce the number of questions.

Thanks Photo Guy,

You've done a lot to keep these matches going, and I certainly didn't want to see it die. On the other hand, your matches were so well designed that I couldn't think of any reason not to just repeat them. And, after all, these matches are really excuses to go to the range, so it's not that critical that someone post the scores at the end of each month. But for the anal-retentive types, they can always go back through and see how they compared to others on an informal basis.

Bottom line, I'm too lazy to do all the work you did, but I need the excuse to go to the range.:D

Thanks,

Bob

I just went back and reviewed the original match from last year. The scores were pretty rough, so for shooting at 5 yards or greater, feel free to use a benchrest..... except of Ankeny, who must shoot everything without a rest. :what: Ankeny broke the curve last time. However, if you use a rest, please indicate it with your score. No Ranson rests.:)

Given the good weather, I'll be shooting this weekend.

Well, kinda chilly and rainy around Kansas City, but I shot anyway. And this puts me in first place, until someone's one eyed grandmother comes along. Then I'm finished.:D
