anyone have an emergency food supply

when i was a kid we had a food storage room in our basement. canned foods that we used a pressure cooker to can every summer and fall, 50 5 gallon buckets of wheat that my mother used to grind to make fresh bread, frozen foods, ect. we had a 4-6 month food supply that we rotated throughout the year.

in todays world they reccamend that we have at least 72 hours of food and water for every person in the family. they call them emergency kits. i am going to start mine(should be alot considering i have a family of 12) i have a substantial amount of ammunition along with a ruger 10/22, a ruger mk III pistol a colt 45 acp, and a 6.5mm manlicher, coleman lanterns with extra fuel, a woodburning stove, oil lamps, and flashlights. i live in the country where the power goes out 4-5 times per year and it has come in handy. its pretty cool when you are prepared and you can make a fire for heat and cooking and the oil lamps for light. my children and i play cards at the kitchen table when this happens and are almost kinda bummed out when the power comes back on. i like it because the family spends good ol' fashioned time together instead of watching tv or playing video games. i sometimes enjoy turn of the century living. much simpler.

just wanted to share this with you all and get your thoughts too. my motto is "plan ahead, it wasnt raining when noah built the arc".

there are bigger changes coming to our planet ( than most can even begin to imagine yet, but if I were to discuss them here, the mods would shut this thread down. <whispers> climate change </whispers>

in preparation, my emergency kit has grown to include (in no particular order):

shotgun (see user name)
Kahr K9
sw 642
CZ 452 .22LR (for small game, like squirrel & rabbit)
<soon> mid sized centerfire rifle (.243, 7mm08, .308) for larger game

always on hand:
5 lbs @ rice, polenta, beans, oatmeal, 7-grain cereal
canned goods: tomatoes, fruit, fish (tuna, sardines)
salt, pepper, spices, herbs
50 gallons water (in blue containers; not to mention what's in my hot water heater should ... no, when the electric fails)

lots of wood for the wood stove (of course, I live in a temperate rainforest)

don't forget the following:
life time supply of strike anywhere matches
first aid kit
warm clothes & rain gear (doesn't matter that you live in FL; this is climate change)

bicycle for getting around when the oil gets too expensive for the buggy.

ammo, ammo & more ammo

a good knife or three
(for me, a Benchmade Osborn for EDC; SOG Seal Pup Elite; SAK)

nice ax

There are other items in my emergency kit,
but right now, it's bedtime.

anyone have an emergency food supply

No! But I'm going to implement one now since you brought it up. I need to build some shelving for stocking food, ammunition, magazines, other accessories, and medical supplies. A chest freezer would be a good investment ONLY if I had an emergency generator. There are many things here to consider.

Got food.....
Got water......
Got guns.....
Got GetHomeBags in each car as well as usually winter driving necessities....

Closet full of batteries, flashlights, family radioes, medical supplies, water filter etc.......

Get everything you would think you could need for 3 days....when you get that shoot for 5 days......then 2 weeks etc.
