I have an Interarms Mark X and the scope mounting holes have become stripped. Any suggestions on repairing them?

Have someone with the proper drilling equipment drill and tap them to the next size. You will also have to open up the holes in the mount to match the new screws.

I assume you mean the holes in the rifle receiver are stripped. If so, most of those holes are size 6x48 and 41 Redhawk is right; you can go to the next size up, which is 8x40. Most gunsmiths can drill and retap for that size (which is a better size anyway for any rifle with heavy recoil).

Thank you for the help guys. How hard would it be to drill and tap the holes to the 8-40? I know the receiver is pretty hard. Has anyone done this before and if so what equipment would I need?

The equiptment you need is an action alignment jig, a floor mount balanced and leveled drill press, a top dead center punch, a tapping chuck, some cutting fluid, some drill bits, some taps, at least taper and bottoming, and a couple good bench levels just to be sure.

Or,
You need the services of a working gunsmith.

I think he is trying to say that you want it nice and straight. Crooked screws do not hold well! :D

Why does he need a center punch?

In this case, he won't. Will need the other things listed (or the ability to make or borrow them). Is a lot to set up to tap one set of holes (yep...have to re-tap them all to the new size to be somewhat professional about things)...and it ignores what you might have to do to the scope mount's holes to get it to work with the new screws.

But that's what yu pay the gunsmith for...not only what he does, but for having all the tooling at hand to do it.

All the headache about fancy tools, drill and retap to 8-40 is unnecessary if you use the .146-48 bottom tap and screws. That tap chases the remnants of the 6-48 threads while reaming the hole for the .146 screw. Its simple to do, just start the bottom tap square to the receiver and go slowly.

I guess I didn't explain the need for the top dead center punch did I??

Since the holes are stripped you really don't need the center punch unless you epoxy screw in and flush them off.
If my customer wants holes expanded from 6X48 to 8X50 I run epoxied screws in and flush them off with the top of the receiver.
This produces a much cleaner cut and there is almost no chance the drill will walk off center if the work is properly center punched.
Blued and perkerized guns are touch blued around the fresh cut holes and stainless guns are repolished or re-beaded depending on if the gun is high polish or matte finish.

If you guys wonder why your gunsmith is "Hosing" you on pricing, this might explain the additional money you spend to have a job professionally completed.

IIRC Brownells has an "oversized" 6x40 screw. Is actually some metric size that is a slight hair bigger than standard 6x40. Is possible to retap with the oversize 6x40 WITHOUT re-drilling the holes and opening up the mounts.
