I'm getting the Remington Marine Magnum. I asked 3 times for a catalog from Mossberg. It's been 2 months & I haven't recieved anything. If they don't want my buisiness, fine. I hear Remington's are better quality anyway. I saw that the Marine Magnum 870 has a 3" chamber. Will it take 2 3/4" shells? The details on the official Remington site don't say. Also, is the recoil pad on the Remington all that great? They said it had a R3 pad I think. Is it possible to get a Marine Magnum that will hold more than 6 shells? Is there a accesory I'm supposed to buy?

Ya, it'll take 2 3/4" shells.

I sure hope so. The MM should be the equal of a Wingmaster and the next best thing to an 870P.

Yes, it will handle 2 3/4" shells just fine.

Also, is the recoil pad on the Remington all that great? They said it had a R3 pad I think.
=========
Yes, the R3 is one of the best pads currently available.

Standard magazine capacity on the 870 is 4 plus 1 in the chamber. The MM has a two round magazine extension as standard equipment, which means it will hold 7 rounds fully loaded (6 in the magazine plus 1 in the chamber). In the new MMs (and Express HDs) the end of the magazine extension is flush with the end of the barrel rather than protruding half an inch or so as it did before. I haven't found out whether they lengthened the barrels 1/2" or shortened the extension, but far as I know it didn't affect magazine capacity. No accessories necessary, save for practice ammo and training.

Stay safe,

Thanks for the info. I understood most of what you said, however I was confused about the magazine capacity.

Will the Marine Magnum 870 hold 7 shells, or just 5?

Would $500.00 plus tax be a good asking price for a new one?

Is the recoil enough for me not to want to shoot it until I get a Knoxx CopStock?

Thanks for the help.

You should fire off an email to Mossberg and tell them as a result you bought a Remington. You moved up in quality anyway.

you know, before you throw a fit about not getting a catalog, you could call them and see if they got your email. 1-800-363-3555. i just called and they verified that there are items in the printed catalog that aren't online; they also told me my 20ga was born in dec 94, so it's 12 now.

The MM should be the equal of a Wingmaster and the next best thing to an 870P.it was my understanding that the mm is an express underneath...

Mossberg already sent me a e-mail saying that they got my request for a catalog LAST month. I know the post office has gone to crap but a month & a half for a catalog is too much. As for the Express & Wingmaster, are they different? Is one better than the other? This will be a HD gun but I will be using it for practice a lot.

I just called the number you gave me. I spoke with a very nice sounding lady. She said the catalog would be in the mail today. I still might get the Remington anyway.

"Will the Marine Magnum 870 hold 7 shells, or just 5?"

The Marine Magnum will hold a total of 7 shells.
6 shells in the magazine, 1 in the chamber.

The Marine Magnum is a nickel plated Express shotgun.
MUCH better than a Mossberg.

Has Remington also sent you a catalog?
I notice you're having trouble finding needed info on the Remington website.

I agree that Remington is a better choice for you

got a 870 express magnum last week, and love it. It was fairly cheap ($280), shoots like a dream, and is easy to maintain.

Don't do it !!!! ..... "just kidding" :p (everybody lower your weapons - safeties back 'on'). :D
I've owned, and liked 'em both - I think it's just a matter of personal preference .... whichever one "feels right".

I'm not sure why you need a catalog since all the information is listed on the Mossberg and Remington web sites ?

Get either one - it is pretty much like Ford or Chevy , some ergonomic differences that sway people one way of another , but both are very servicable guns.

The problem is that the gun stores where I can get to don't carry any of the guns I want. They can order them from the factory however. But if they have to order them, I'd probably have to get all of them instead of just figuring out which one is best for me.

I am going to insert my .02 on this.

First of all, both are great guns and I dont think you can go wrong either way. I would lean towards the Remington in terms of better quality, but overall, both are great choices.

Now, this is where I kinda act like a jerk for two seconds:

You said you requested the catalog a few times and never got it. Obviously, this is so you can do some research...understood.

The flip side is that it sounds like you have done your research ONLINE (for the remington), so whats the need for a catalog from either place?

Just a thought....if you can research online for Remington, why can't you do that for Mossberg?

"Just a thought....if you can research online for Remington, why can't you do that for Mossberg?"

I have done intense internet research on both models. All that's really left to do is pick them up & see how they feel to me. The trouble is that I can't find them in stores. The stores have to order them from the factory. Then I think I would have to pay for all of them. I would love to do this but I don't have that kind of cash. Anyone want to send me money for a shotgun? Or better yet we can cut out the middle-man & send me your 870 MM or 500 or 590 Mariners.:D
