View Full Version : Shotguns at mainstream retailers

I am going to be getting an HD type shotgun this week. I would be fine with the cheaper Maverick, but stores like WalMart and Academy only carry the long ~26" barrel versions. However, Academy for example has an 18.5" Mossberg Persuader with a spare PG.

Does anyone know of a big retailer that carries 18.5 Mavericks?

Most of the "mainstream retailers" don't want to sell evil assault-type weapons, so they restrict themselves to the longer tubes. You could buy a "combo" package from them, with longer and shorter barrels, but Wal-Mart, for example, only lists 24" barrels as the "short" option. You'd be better off buying a shortie through your local gun store, or buying the "mainstream retailer" gun and then ordering a second barrel from somewhere like Cabela's.

Indeed...

I was thinking of a used 500 or 870 but all of the ones I have handled had like... shakey forends. What is with that? I mean they wobble in ways I dont think they should wobble.

The Academy that I shop at had the 18.5 barreled Maverick 88 for $148. Check they will probably order one for you.

i got my 870 express mag with 18" and +2 tube extension at sportsman warehouse for $280 last week. All i did was add a stock pad to it to make it a perfect house gun. 7 rounds of 3" 00B for uninvited guests
