how do you remove the fore end grip from a Mossberg 500? The manual doesn't explain this...

Remove the barrel. Remove the trigger group. Turn it so the receiver opening is facing down and shake; some pieces will fall out. Slide the bolt around in the receiver until it falls out. Pull the fore-end forward and out of the receiver.

It is a lot easier to get it apart than it is to reassemble, so make sure you look closely at how it fits together before you start shaking things out.

Yes, remember the golden rule of detail stripping... if there are parts left over once you've reassembled the gun, DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, SHOOT IT!!!

a: this thread needs more "remove all ammo from the shotgun and area" steps.

b: "Turn it so the receiver opening is facing down and shake; some pieces will fall out." is the best disassembly instruction ever. and it's right, too!

glockman, if you need pictures, i can see about taking some tomorrow.

Preacherman,

If you are talking about removing just the fore end, there is a threaded ring that retains it. Remove the barrel, then the ring will become evident at the end of the foregrip. The ring on mine has two slots in it to allow a wrenct to turn it off , lacking this I have found that cautious use of a large screwdriver to get it started, will allow you to remove the ring by hand. Once removed, the fore grip simply slides off.

Hope this has been of some help,

Blair

I have owned many and currently have 5 Mossberg 500's from old to brand new, 12's and 20's, and I have the AGI Gunsmith Video for 500's.
If you need more specific info or can't figure it out, just ask and I will tell
you what to do.

I've used Mossberg's choke tube tool to remove the forend nut.
The nut extends just a tiny bit from the forearm and you can easily stick the choke tube tool into the slots and turn.

Hey Glockman, check out this video about the Mossberg 500 detail strip. I think it might help. http://www.lifelibertyetc.com/RangeBag.aspx
