I have read on several forums about how the Pearce Grip extension for the Springfield XD could be modified slightly to work on the RAMI. I liked the idea of having it a little longer so that my pinky could have a place on the grip. I don't remember seeing anyone post a picture of a RAMI with this modification done to it, so I thought I would try it.

On one forum I read that the Pearce Grip extension could be modified by taking the ridge of the top of it, thus allowing it to fit flush with the bottom of the RAMI when the mag was inserted.

So I picked up a couple of the Pearce XD extensions. I decided a more fitting tool for the job was a table top belt sander. I took the plastic extension down to a point where the ridge was gone. Then I put it on my factory RAMI grip. It went on nice. I ran into two other problems which I have not read about yet in the internet CZ world. I wanted to share them so that if you try it, your life will be easier.

First. You have to look at the back of the extension needs to be angled down at approximately a 45 degree angle. It needs to follow the contour of the back of the gun. You can play with the shape a little at a time and get it to match.

Second. You have to take off quite a bit more than just the little ridge that goes around the top of the extension. If you only take off that ridge, the extension keeps the magazine from being able to be caught with the mag catch. Again, something you will have to play with till it goes in far enough for the mag catch to work.

It makes a nice difference in how I am able to grip the RAMI. It was a fun little project. Not quite as easy and quick as you might imagine. Definately worth it. Take your time and don't sand too much off. It took me about 20 minutes to complete.

You can also purchase a factory 14 rounder with an extension on it from CZ, but I liked this idea better for a concealed carry gun.

The grips are made out of a nice piece of wood that I had left over from when I used to make 1911 grips. It is stabilized boxelder burl which has been double dyed brown and black.

I sent the wood to Tom Oleson http://www.viking-grips.com/ and he made them for me. VERY NICE.

Any word from Pierce, or did they just laugh and toss out your work? Perhaps you could make them out of adodized aluminum in your shop, or build a zytel/kydex mold? Yust a thought....
