Just saw this on my Local news station :barf:

The six people charged were identified as: Chantel Curr, 38; Dominique S. Andrew, 19; Virger M. Garland, 46; Jennifer M. Jones, 36; Trina M. Wilson, 37; and Steven D. Brown, 50. They are charged with one count of receipt of stolen government property. Each could face up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

I was surprised to see on tv that they were all black, seeing as how the worst hit in NO was the Black community, it seems to make the treachery even worse. I hate to have to bring up that fact, but thats what it is, a fact, and I do think it makes it worse.

Well, I see this thred getting locked down post hase, can't I would disagree either.

However, let me take a stab at it. I think he is referring the the implication of a black on black crime. With the race posturing that went on right after Katrina (several blacks claiming racism on how the rescue and reliefe efforts were going) he is commenting on the irony of blacks stealing money that was intended to go to black familes affected, or somthing like that.

I agree. I have a few Black co-workers (Really like them, they are great people.) and the worst, most racist people they have met have been black. (He told me this when I was talking to him about Katrina.) But regardless of race, they need to see some hard time and have the REAL victims get a chance at taking a swing at them.

There have always been criminals who steal money intended for good causes. Basic human evil transcends race, class and nation. Fortunately, so does basic human goodness.

Sorry if my first post came across as harsh, but I really was trying to determine the intent of the comment. At any rate, I suspect that with very few exception, criminals do not consider their race, or the race of the victim to be important. I have no stats on that, just never heard a thief say I broke into that house because the owner had one particular skin color.

We had some people that drove from 5 hours north of here to get some of the red cross and disaster relief money. They were all black. They took some very large sum (over 10k dollars). It didn't seem to bother them that they were only hurting their people.

Unfortunately in alot of black culture, they only watch out for themselves, and not their neighbor. They have an outlook that seeks immediate retribution, and that is why you see things like this.

About a dozen people were caught in Denver for fraudulently getting Katrina relief money. I'm sure a few in every major city have used this scam.
