Fibre optics on a Supermatic?

I have typical geezer eyes, multi focal glasses, nearsighted. My favorite target pistol is a Hi Standard Supermatic w/ adjustable rear, blade front sight. In order to get the front sight to stand out more I've been playing with fiber optic sights meant for a shotgun (magnetic). Man that dot sure does stand out! Question is ....this piece is from the ~1960's and I don't want to butcher it up in anyway. What are my options, for fiber optic or other sights. I've tried white paint bought at a gun show for this purpose but it doesn't stick well. Perhaps special glasses?

Thanks. I appreciate your input.

Tom

I don't know whether your front sight is dovetailed or not but you might want to look at these two sites:

You can probably remove the front sight and replace it with a modified sight. Given that High Standard went out of business in 1984, you're not likely to find a fiber optic sight for it, but could probably modify one for another gun and/or rework a High Standard front sight.

My solution to the problem was to go to red dot sights: http://www.ultradotusa.com/ud_home.html
