They are not part of the AW ban. Are they regulated at all?
Do states have differing laws about them?

I don't have any on my rifles now, but one on my AK might be fun to play with...

Thanks.

They're not regulated on longarms, add as many as you like. 2, 3, 4 pistols grips... they're all the same as one, so two grips is still only one 'evil feature'

On pistols, however, they make your gun an AOW.

Thanks. I didn't think they were Federally regulated, but wanted to be sure.
Do any of the stoopid states (CA, NJ, MD, MA, etc) have any laws about them?

I couldnt tell you, off the top of my head, though i'm sure some states do. I'll let someone from those states answer.

You can probably pick up some new furniture, complete with the second pistol grip (assuming you have the first, at least) at the next gunshow in your area. Even as badly as the ones around here suck (see General Discussion), i spotted several sets, and one or two even had reasonable prices.

Unfortunately in California a forward pistol grip is one characteristic of an assault weapon.

SB23 states...

12276.1 (a) Notwithstanding Section 12276, "assault weapon" shall also mean any of the following:

(1) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and any one of the following:

(A) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon.
(B) A thumbhole stock.
(C) A folding or telescoping stock.
(D) A grenade launcher or flare launcher.
(E) A flash suppressor.
(F) A forward pistol grip.

Fobus has an AK forend in the works that has rail(s) on it to attach goodies like VFG's. Look up COHIBA.. he's who I got the info from, and also who I'd buy mine from if I had an AK...

I'm not a fan of permanently attached VFG's. You can't take 'em off if you want (without putting the old forend back on).

It would just be a toy to fool around with. I can change the forearm on my AK in about 90 seconds, so it's not a problem to stick one on temporarily.
