I bought another Remmy 870 today for $125.00 in mint condition from a friend in need of money for another purchase. I didn't need another since I already own two and one mossy but at that price I couldn't say no. Anyway it has a 21" rem choke barrel, wood furniture, and was manufactured in 1990. I plan on keeping it simple, no fancy do dads on this one. The one thing I am going to do is change the follower because it looks like it has a lot of wear and its getting thin. Here are my questions.

Will a wilson hi vis follower work ok with the stock spring and no extension? I already have a extra one.

Would a 17 year old gun need a new mag spring?

Yes, the Wilson follower will work with a standard spring.

The spring will only need changing if it's been hard used, or left loaded for some time (probably years rather than months). However, since you're changing out the follower, it's probably a good time to change the spring as well, on general principles.

You can get upgrade kits with both the Wilson follower and a new Wolff spring from Brownells: their part number is 800-120-005 for the "5-shot Performance Package", and this lists for $14. Recommended.

What a coincidence...I bought another one today too. My 3nd. I love these guns. Mine is a 12 ga. with 28" modified barrel in like new condition. I don't thinks its even had a box of shells through it. Found it in a local pawn shop for $249 plus tax.

I found humor in your typo. When my better half asks me "how many of those do you have now?" I usually reply with "uhh, this is my 2th or 3th one." or something equally unintelligible. ;)

Nice looking 870. I can see that I better get busy acquiring more 870s while there's still some left.

Heh,heh,heh....

I have a extra spring laying around but its for a extended mag, you think if I cut it the same size as a standard remington spring and made the cut end nice and pretty it would function fine? BTW it is a new spring, ain't it amazing the the spare parts and do dads you can acumilate when you start tinkering with 870's.
