How?

For a number of possibly silly reasons, I want an AR15 pistol. I know owning one will make me look like an extra from a 1990's action flick, but I want one nonetheless.
No, I see a lot of kits for such but it looks as though putting one together would instantly make me a fellon and possibly an enemy combatant. So what is the secret? How does one get a legal AR15 pistol?
Thanks in advance

Pro-Ordnance, who made the Carbon 15 series of rifles and pistols is out of business. Apparently they had some QC issues.
The biggest thing that separates an AR pistol from being a Short-Barrelled Rifle (SBR) is the weight. The Carbon pistols qualify as a pistol because they weigh less than the arbitrary weight limit that would make it a SBR.
Same goes for the Olympic Arms OA98 pictured below:

I'm sure that someone out there who has more experience with these matters can shed more light on the legalities.

I don't think weight is an issue with SBRs. An SBR is an action with a shoulder stock and a sub 16" barrel. I can't imagine the ATF caring if your TC Contender pistol weighs ten pounds or not.
I would call Olympic and ask them what the deal is. They sell complete pistols and kits.

Because he had a stock on a pistol length barrel, or had created an AOW, or something else related directly to a law from 1968.
Not because his pistol weighed too much.

Ultra-short AR designs tend to have spotty reliability, thanks to the drastically shortened gas tube.
Where do they put the recoil spring on that Oly Arms pistol...above the bolt into the receiver top?
